Texas State Set for J. Fred Duckett Twilight in Houston

SAN MARCOS, Texas— Texas State track & field resumes its outdoor regular season Saturday in Houston, Texas, competing at the J. Fred Duckett Twilight hosted by Rice University.

The one-day meet will begin at 10:00 a.m. with the men's hammer throw and women's javelin, followed by the men's and women's long jump at 12:00 p.m. Running events are scheduled to start at 2:30 p.m. 

At 5:30 p.m., the meet will pause for the national anthem, Senior Recognition and Alumni Recognition before concluding with the evening running session beginning at 6:00 p.m.

Texas State will compete in a 24-team field that includes Rice, Blinn College, Dallas Baptist, Dallas Christian, East Texas A&M, Hill College, Houston, Houston Christian, Huston-Tillotson, Jacksonville College, Lamar, Louisiana, Our Lady of the Lake, Sam Houston, Southwestern Christian, St. Edward's, Stephen F. Austin, Texas A&M-Kingsville, Texas Southern, Texas Southmost College, UT Dallas, UT Tyler and Victoria College.

The Bobcats are coming off a strong trip to California, highlighted by multiple records, national marks and conference honors. Texas State recorded several top finishes across the Bryan Clay Invitational, Mt. SAC Relays and Pacific Coast Invitational, continuing to build momentum heading into the final stretch of the regular season.

Freshman Ja'Shaun Lloyd earned Sun Belt Conference Men's Track Athlete of the Week honors after running 13.42w in the 110-meter hurdles at the Mt. SAC Relays, marking the No. 4 all-time performance in NCAA history by a freshman and ranking tied for seventh in the nation this season. Lloyd also competed in the 400-meter hurdles, adding to his standout weekend against elite competition.

Elisabet Runarsdottir was named Sun Belt Conference Women's Field Athlete of the Week following a dominant showing in the hammer throw. She recorded a mark of 72.89 meters at the Mt. SAC Relays, breaking the Icelandic national record for the second time this season. 

The throw ranks No. 2 in the NCAA this year and No. 9 all-time in collegiate history, while also moving her to No. 3 in Texas State program history. 

Additional highlights included multiple top-10 finishes in both field and track events, as the Bobcats showcased depth across sprints, hurdles, throws and jumps.

The Bobcats currently have 25 athletes ranked on the NCAA West Outdoor Qualifying List, including 13 men and 12 women, positioning the Bobcats for strong representation at the regional meet.

Saturday's meet will serve as one of the final opportunities for Texas State to sharpen performances ahead of the Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Championships. 

The Bobcats will look to continue improving marks and building consistency as postseason competition approaches.
