Bobcats Dominate Throws, Runarsdottir Sets Record to Open Outdoor Season

SAN ANTONIO, Texas— Texas State track and field opened the outdoor season Friday at the UTSA Invitational with a dominant showing in the throwing events.

Day one was highlighted by multiple event titles and a record-breaking performance in the women's hammer throw.

"Great opening day of competition for our team," head coach John Frazier said. "We had many great marks and I'm very excited for Elísabet with an Icelandic hammer record as she knows there is a lot more there for her."

Leading the way for the Bobcats, Elisabet Runarsdottir delivered a historic mark of 71.41m to win the women's hammer throw. The throw set both a meet and facility record, ranks No. 1 in the nation and tied the Icelandic national record.

On the men's side, the Bobcats continued their dominance in the hammer throw as Manfred Mannamaa claimed first place with a mark of 62.56m, while Marius Numrich followed in second at 60.55m. Alberto Archundia added a sixth-place finish at 55.08m.

Texas State also found success in the women's shot put, where Sophia Haberer placed second with a throw of 15.59m. Hannah Kemele followed in fifth at 15.44m , highlighting the Bobcats' depth in the event.

In the men's shot put, Adam Carter led the way with a fourth-place finish at 17.22m.
