Texas State Completes Day One of NCAA Championships in Eugene

EUGENE, Ore.— Texas State track & field opened competition at the 2026 NCAA Outdoor Championships at Hayward Field, highlighted by a strong opening day in the decathlon from Easton Hammond.

Hammond sits in contention through five events of the decathlon after posting solid performances across the board, including a personal-best mark in the shot put.

Hammond opened the day with an 11.25-second performance in the 100 meters before recording a long jump mark of 7.02 meters. Hammond then delivered one of the top performances of the field in the shot put, placing eighth in the event with a personal-best throw of 13.70 meters.

He followed with a clearance of 1.95 meters in the high jump and concluded the day by clocking 49.29 seconds in the 400 meters, the 10th-fastest time in the event.

The decathlon concludes Thursday with the 110-meter hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin and 1,500 meters.

On the track, freshman Ja'Shaun Lloyd capped a historic rookie campaign in the men's 110-meter hurdles semifinals. Lloyd finished 15th overall after crossing the line in 13.45 seconds, positioning himself to earn Second Team All-America honors.

Lloyd closes his freshman season as one of the most decorated newcomers in program history. During the outdoor season, he captured Sun Belt Conference titles in both the 100 meters and 110-meter hurdles while setting school records in each event.

Senior Drew Donley concluded his collegiate career in the men's 200-meter semifinals. Donley placed 19th overall with a time of 20.76 seconds.

Donley wraps up one of the most successful sprint seasons in Texas State history. The senior earned Sun Belt Conference championships in both the 100 and 200 meters and established a new school record in the 200 meters with a time of 20.39 seconds.

Texas State returns to competition Thursday as Hammond closes out the decathlon at Hayward Field.

Elisabet Runarsdottir and Lara Roberts will represent Texas State in the women's hammer throw beginning at 2:30 p.m. PT, while Charlize Goody is scheduled to compete in the women's javelin at 6:15 p.m. PT.
