Runarsdottir Captures Second NCAA Hammer Throw Title

EUGENE, Ore.— Texas State track & field earned a national title, two First Team All-America honors and a Second Team All-America finish Thursday at the 2026 NCAA Outdoor Championships at Hayward Field.

Junior Elisabet Runarsdottir highlighted the day by capturing the NCAA women's hammer throw national championship with a lifetime-best mark of 73.19 meters. The title is the second NCAA championship of her career after previously winning the event in 2024 and makes her just the second athlete in Texas State track and field history to win multiple NCAA national championships.

Runarsdottir's championship winning throw not only secured the national title but also improved her own Icelandic national record. The Iceland native further cemented her legacy as one of the most accomplished athletes in program history, adding a second NCAA title and another First Team All-America honor to an already decorated career.

Fellow hammer thrower Lara Roberts also earned a place on the podium, finishing sixth with a throw of 69.05 meters. The top eight finish secured First Team All-America honors for the Australian junior.

In the women's javelin, sophomore Charlize Goody concluded her breakthrough season with a 22nd place finish after recording a throw of 48.33 meters. Goody entered the national championships after setting the Texas State school record and qualifying for her first NCAA Outdoor Championships.

Senior Easton Hammond closed out day two by completing the decathlon and earning Second Team All-America honors with a 16th place finish and 7,360 points.

Hammond posted top-15 finishes in seven of the 10 events, highlighted by a personal-best throw of 13.70 meters in the shot put. He also recorded marks of 7.02 meters in the long jump, 1.95 meters in the high jump, 42.20 meters in the discus, 4.71 meters in the pole vault and 51.62 meters in the javelin.

The All-America honor caps a standout season for Hammond, who won the Sun Belt Conference decathlon title and qualified for the NCAA Championships after producing one of the top scores in the nation during the outdoor season.

Texas State will close out competition on Friday as Aiden Hayes and Tshephang Dankuru will represent the Bobcats in the men's high jump beginning at 4:30 p.m. PT.
