NEW ORLEANS – After a stellar debut campaign on the hardwood, Texas State's
DJ Hall was chosen as the Sun Belt Conference's Freshman of the Year and to the all-conference second team announced by the league office on Monday.
Hall is just the second Bobcat ever to earn a conference's Freshman of the Year honor with the only previous recipient being Dameon Sansom in 1993.
The Plano, Texas native led Texas State with 15.3 points and 7.5 rebounds per game, the sixth highest in the Sun Belt. His 54.1% shooting mark from the field was the third best in the conference while he also knocked down 78.7% (111-of-141) at the free throw line.
Hall has recorded eight double-doubles this season with four coming against Sun Belt opponents. The forward scored at least 20 points seven times with a career-best 27 coming in a home victory over ULM on Feb. 14. Overall, his 475 points this season is the second most ever by a Bobcat freshman. He is three points shy of breaking the record held by Nijal Pearson.
The freshman handed out 70 assists, third most on the squad, and finished second on the team with 43 steals.
Next up for Hall and Texas State is the Sun Belt Conference Tournament that is being held in Pensacola, Florida. The team will play on Friday at 5:30 p.m. in the fourth round.
