Parra’s Record Performance Paces Texas State at Charlie Thomas Invitational

COLLEGE STATION, Texas— Texas State track and field wrapped up competition Saturday evening at the Charlie Thomas Invitational, hosted by Texas A&M.

The Bobcats turned in a strong second day, highlighted by a school record, multiple top-10 marks in program history and several Sun Belt Conference-leading performances.

Senior Abigail Parra delivered the top performance of the meet, winning the women's mile in a Texas State record time of 4:40.41. The mark surpassed the record she set last indoor season. Parra currently owns the fastest times in the Sun Belt this season in both the mile and 3,000 meters.

The victory marked Parra's second consecutive meet win paired with a school record performance. At the Ted Nelson Invitational, she captured the women's 3,000 meters while breaking the program record in that event.

Easton Hammond and David Richards completed their first combined events competition of the indoor season in the heptathlon. Hammond placed third with 5,337 points, the fifth-highest total in program history, while Richards finished 11th with 4,998 points.

Manfred Mannamaa was Texas State's lone competitor in the men's weight throw, placing fifth with a mark of 17.97 meters to finish inside the top 10 of a competitive field.

The Bobcats saw strong performances in the women's shot put, where three athletes posted marks. Melanie Duron finished third with a throw of 16.16 meters, followed closely by Sophia Haberer in fourth at 15.59 meters.

Stephanie Williams recorded a mark of 13.91 meters, which ranks fourth in the Sun Belt this season. Texas State now holds three of the top five conference marks in the event.

In the 3,000 meters, Alexia Tiscareno Macias and Jack Deelman each recorded top-three finishes. Macias placed third in the women's race with a personal-record time of 9:42.15, while Deelman finished second in the men's race at 8:22.22. Both marks rank fifth in Texas State indoor program history.

Omar Guzman and Ivan Guzman also placed inside the top 10 in the men's 3,000 meters. Omar finished eighth in 8:26.32, while Ivan placed 10th with a time of 8:33.08.

Freshman Ja'Shaun Lloyd led the Bobcats in the sprint events, qualifying for the 60-meter hurdles final after winning his preliminary heat in 7.75 seconds. He went on to place third in the final with a time of 7.73 seconds, the seventh-fastest mark in program history.

Texas State closed the meet in the 4x400-meter relays. Both the men's and women's teams placed seventh, with the women clocking 3:43.33 and the men finishing in 3:13.46.

The Bobcats return to competition next weekend at the Jarvis Scott Invitational in Lubbock.
