Texas State Opens Charlie Thomas Invitational With Strong Day One

COLLEGE STATION, Texas— Texas State track and field wrapped up day one of competition Friday at the Charlie Thomas Invitational, hosted by Texas A&M.

The meet opened with the women's weight throw, where Elisabet Runarsdottir placed second with a mark of 19.19 meters. The throw currently ranks third in the Sun Belt Conference. Sophia Haberer added a sixth-place finish with a personal-best throw of 16.39m.

Texas State also began competition in the combined events, marking the Bobcats' first multi-event meet of the season. Easton Hammond, David Richards, Sophie Daugard and Bostyn Baskin represented Texas State in the heptathlon and pentathlon competitions.

Hammond and Richards each completed five events Friday in the heptathlon and will finish competition Saturday. Hammond currently sits fourth among collegiate competitors, while Richards is sixth.

In the combined events, Hammond recorded three personal bests in the 60 meters, long jump and shot put, while Richards added a PR in the shot put during the opening day of the heptathlon.

In the men's high jump, Texas State placed two athletes in the top five. Aiden Hayes finished second with a clearance of 2.14m, while Tshephang Dankuru placed fifth with the same mark.

Freshman Caden O'Hara captured the men's pole vault title in just his second collegiate meet, setting a personal record with a clearance of 5.10m (16 feet, 8.75 inches).
