Bobcats Claim Historic Sweep at Sun Belt Indoor Championships

Bobcats win men’s and women’s indoor titles for first time in program history

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.— Texas State men's and women's track & field swept the Sun Belt Conference Indoor Championships for the first time in program history.

The women's team secured back-to-back conference titles, totaling 126.5 points to win the championship. The men's team captured its first indoor conference title since 2016, finishing with 140.5 points.

It marks the first time in program history Texas State has won both the men's and women's Sun Belt Indoor Championships in the same season.

Senior Abigail Parra captured two individual conference titles. She won the women's mile in a meet-record time of 4:43.08 and added gold in the 800 meters, crossing in 2:13.68. Parra also earned silver in the 3,000 meters with a time of 9:46.12.

In the mile, Alexia Tiscareno Macias placed third (4:47.44), while Kimberly Gloria finished eighth (4:57.49). Macias also added a fourth-place finish in the 5,000 meters (16:47.85).

The women's shot put group dominated the podium, led by Melanie Duron, who won the conference title with a throw of 17.01 meters. Sophia Haberer (15.56m) and Hannah Kemele (15.08m) placed second and third, respectively, while Stephanie Williams finished seventh (14.05m).

Elisabet Runarsdottir claimed gold in the weight throw with a mark of 20.62 meters. Duron added a 10th-place finish, while Haberer placed 19th.

In the high jump, Chinenye Uzoh tied for second at 1.74 meters, while Bostyn Baskin placed sixth (1.71m).

Paige Archer scored in both sprint events, finishing sixth in the 60 meters (7.44) and second in the 200 meters (23.55).

The Bobcats added relay points with a second-place finish in the distance medley relay (11:45.54).

Sophie Daugard placed second in the pentathlon with 3,901 points, and Baskin finished fifth (3,562).

Freshman Ja'Shaun Lloyd delivered a historic performance, winning the 60 meters in 6.68 seconds and the 60-meter hurdles in 7.91 seconds. Lloyd also added a runner-up finish in the 200 meters (21.07) and was named the men's high-point scorer with 29.5 points.

In the high jump, Texas State claimed a share of the conference title as Aiden Hayes and Tshephang Dankuru tied for first at 2.22 meters.

The Bobcats scored heavily in the horizontal jumps. Chris Preddie placed second in the long jump (7.65m) and third in the triple jump (15.29m).

Giovonni Walker finished fifth in the long jump (7.26m), and Isaiah Kayembe placed sixth (7.16m). Damacio Hooks added a sixth-place finish in the triple jump (14.78m), while Christian Soungie placed 12th.


In the 3,000 meters, Ivan Guzman finished sixth (8:28.68), Jack Deelman seventh (8:28.71) and Omar Guzman eighth (8:31.80).

The trio also scored in the 5,000 meters, led by Omar Guzman in fourth (14:37.67), followed by Deelman in fifth (14:39.77) and Ivan Guzman in seventh (14:44.82).


Elias Palmer placed third in the mile (4:17.80), while David Serrato finished sixth (4:20.73).

The men's 4x400-meter relay team placed third in 3:12.22, and the distance medley relay finished fifth (10:15.51).

Texas State's performances across sprints, distance and field events highlighted a balanced championship effort as the Bobcats closed out competition in Birmingham with both men's and women's titles.
