Men’s Hoops Hosts Marshall Wednesday Night

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Wednesday sees the Texas State men's basketball team (11-11, 4-6 Sun Belt) return home to host Marshall (13-7, 5-3 Sun Belt) at 7 p.m.

About Texas State
The Bobcats are coming off a two-game road trip that saw them drop both games. They look to get back on track having gone 10-1 at home this season.

DJ Hall continues to pace the team offensively at 14.0 points per game and is grabbing a team-high 7.6 rebounds per game. The freshman leads the Sun Belt Conference shooting 54.3% from the field. Mark Drone is adding 13.6 ppg after leading the team in scoring the past two games. He has made 44.3% of his shots and knocked down 20 three-pointers, the second most on the team behind Franck Emmou's 21.

A conference leading 48 steals has been recorded by Kaden Gumbs. He needs four more to crack the team's top 10 season list while he is ninth on the career list with 118. The San Marcos native has also handed out a team-high 3.5 assists per game.

About Marshall
The Thundering Herd come into Wednesday's game having won its last two games. The most recent was a 115-60 victory at home over ULM that saw them make a Sun Belt record 26 three-pointers. When playing on the road, Marshall is 3-5 with a 1-2 mark in conference games.

Jalen Speer leads the team in scoring (15.0), made three-pointers (57) and assists (114) while ranking second in three-point (37.0%) and free throw (84.3%) shooting. Wyatt Fricks is adding 14.4 ppg with a team best 53.2% shooting mark while Noah Osthudi comes in averaging 14.1 ppg.

Matt Van Komen, a 7-foot, 4-inch transfer from Elon, is netting 8.1 ppg, grabbing 7.5 rpg and has blocked 50 shots. Caleb Hollenback has made 45 shots from beyond the arc at a 41.3% clip.

Series History
Marshall leads the all-time series 3-1 with all three of its victories coming in regular season meetings. The most recent was a 77-71 contest in Huntington on Jan. 2, 2025. Texas State's lone win in the series was in the 2023 Sun Belt quarterfinals that ended 71-68.
