SAN MARCOS, Texas – The last road game this month for the Texas State men's basketball team (11-10, 4-5 Sun Belt) takes the team to James Madison (9-11, 2-6 Sun Belt) on Saturday. Tipoff is scheduled for 12 p.m. CT from the Atlantic Union Bank Center.

The Bobcats are coming off a tough loss on Thursday that saw Coastal Carolina make three free throws with 1.1 seconds remaining to claim the game, 72-70. This was after TXST came back from 13 points down to take a five-point lead with less than 90 seconds left in the contest. Mark Drone led the way with 24 points, 22 of which came in the second half, and DJ Hall added 23 points.
Hall's performance on Thursday increased his team leading scoring average to 14.0 points per game. He also paces the squad with 7.8 rebounds per game and is shooting a Sun Belt Conference best 54.6% from the field.
Drone enters Saturday putting up 13.6 ppg on 45.9% shooting. He has knocked down 19 three-pointers, the second most on the team behind Franck Emmou's 20.
Kaden Gumbs comes in dishing out 3.5 assists per game and leads the conference with 2.1 steals per game. The junior is contributing 8.8 ppg having made 47.9% of his shots and knocking down 38-of-47 (80.9%) free throw attempts.
About James Madison
The Dukes have lost three straight after falling to South Alabama on Thursday by a score of 90-83. The setback dropped them to 6-2 at home this season with a 1-2 record against Sun Belt opponents.
Justin McBride is the fourth leading scorer in the conference at 17.3 ppg. He has made 49.4% of his shot attempts, has knocked down 31-of-74 (41.9%) from beyond the arc and is 79-for-99 (79.8%) at the free throw line. Bradley Douglas enters scoring 12.9 ppg and leads the team with 4.5 apg. Also with a double-digit scoring average is Cliff Davis at 12.5 ppg.
Series History
The all-time series between the two programs is tied 2-2. Texas State won the most recent meeting on Feb. 28, 2025 in last year's regular season finale for both teams. The game ended 102-93 in double overtime that denied James Madison the outright regular season title.
When playing on the road, the Bobcats are 1-1 all-time. TXST lost the most recent meeting in Harrisonburg 82-65 on Dec. 20, 2023. In the first-ever meeting on Jan. 5, 2023, the Bobcats hung on for a 63-62 victory.
