Men's Team Places Third and Women's Places Fourth at UIW Invitational

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Texas State cross country competed in its second meet of the season Friday morning at the UIW Invitational, where the women's team placed fourth in the 5k and the men's team finished third in the 4-mile race.

The women's squad scored 93 points and had three runners finish in the top 20 of 129 competitors.

Junior Alexia Tiscareno Macias once again led the Bobcats, finishing fourth and setting a PR in the 5k with a time of 17:42.5. Macias has placed in the top five in both meets this season, including a first place finish in the opener.

Sophomores Nyomi Garcia and Destiney Rose also placed in the top 20. Garcia finished 12th in 18:22.1, her second straight top 20 finish, while Rose set a PR of 18:45.4 to place 20th. Freshman Sofia Pena made her Texas State debut and placed 40th in 19:27.0.

On the men's side, Texas State tallied 110 points with three runners finishing in the top 25 of 150 competitors.

Senior Anthony Parra and junior Jack Deelman crossed the line together, finishing 17th and 18th, respectively, in identical times of 20:24.7. The mark was a PR for Deelman in the four mile race. Both runners notched their second straight top 20 finishes. 

Senior Elias Palmer rounded out the top 25 in 20:41.0, which marks his second top 25 finish of the season.

Senior David Mendez-Serrato and sophomore David Herring both finished right inside the top 40. Serrato finished in 20:44.7 and took 30th, while Herring placed 38th with a time of 20:58.7.

Texas State cross country will take nearly a month off before returning to competition on October 11th at the Old Glory Gallop Invitational in Fort Worth, hosted by Dallas Baptist University.
