SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State women's basketball and Head Coach
Zenarae Antoine have announced the signing of Northwest Florida State transfer Kyla McBride. She joins the Bobcats as a junior after spending her first two seasons with the Raiders.
"We are elated to bring Kyla to San Marcos," Antoine said. "She is a tough competitor who elevates us on both ends of the floor. With a NJCAA National Championship under a legendary head coach in Bart Walker, Kyla knows the work and dedication needed to win a championship. It is a great day to be a BOBCAT, and we welcome Kyla to our program!"
McBride, a native of Magnolia, Arkansas, helped her team to back-to-back NJCAA Championship appearances during her first two collegiate seasons. The NWF Raiders were National Champions in 2025 after avenging their national championship loss in 2024. En route to the national championship appearance, McBride averaged over 10 points per game while bringing down 4.0 rebounds a night. She shot over 44% from the field in the process.
During the NJCAA National Championship Tournament, McBride averaged over 11 points per game and was shooting 50% from three. She had 13 points in the National Championship against Shelton State Community College. Outside of the national championship in 2025, she had 17 nights with double digits including a season 22-point night against Pensacola State College on Jan. 18.Â
During her freshman year, McBride shot nearly 50% in her playing time off the bench, which helped her team to a second place finish in the NJCAA National Championship.
Prior to her time with Northwest Florida State, McBride prepped at Waxahachie High School and played AAU basketball for Proskills.
McBride is the sixth transfer to join the Bobcats ahead of the 2025-26 season. She is one of eight newcomers Antoine has added to the program this fall, joining transfers Deja Jones, Myla Harbor, Amyria Walker, Kyra Anderson and KP Parr and two incoming freshmen Kaliyah Murphy and Angela Carroll.
What they're saying about McBride:
Coach Bart Walker, Head Coach at Northwest Florida State College: "Kyla has grown tremendously and been a very intricate part of Northwest Florida State success within the last two years finishing with a 62-7 record! We finished as National Runner Ups in 2024 and National Champions in 2025!  Her versatility to guard both perimeter and post play is invaluable!  Her upside is what she wants to make it! Kyla is a talented and great student, and she determines her success! Kyla is a Raider for life!"
Â
Coach Zack Banks, Former Northwest Florida Assistant Coach:Â "You are getting a true competitor! She is going to bring something truly special on both sides of the ball. Kyla was our Swiss Army knife here at Northwest Florida State! She played so many different positions and her ability to guard 1-4 on the floor is something you can't teach. The best thing I can say is you are getting a great person and someone who's smile and personality lights up the room. Loved coaching Kyla McBride!"
Â
Coach Larry Holman, Head Varsity Girls Basketball Coach at Waxahachie HS:Â "I'm incredibly proud and excited to see Kyla join the Lady Bobcat family. She's a dedicated, hardworking team player with tremendous potential. Beyond her talent on the court, she's an even more exceptional person."
