SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State women's basketball improved to 2-0 in Sun Belt play after three Bobcats scored double-digits including two 20-point efforts from
Saniya Burks (24) and
Kyra Anderson (22). Anderson paired her 22-point night with 10 rebounds for her third double-double of the season.
Â
Freshman
Angela Carroll was the third in double-digits with a career best 14 on the night.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED:Â
Burks started the game off hot with eight points in the first two minutes to help Texas State go up early. From there, Texas State pushed themselves out to a 12-3 lead off a
Kyra Anderson bucket. The Warhawks battled back in the latter half of the quarter though, and the first quarter ended up tied at 18.
Â
ULM carried that momentum through the second quarter, outscoring Texas State 14-4 and forcing head coach
Zenarae Antoine to take a timeout. After that, the Bobcats continued to battle but went into the halftime break trailing 41-31.
Â
The Bobcats came out of the halftime break the right way, though, going on a 6-0 run to start and bring the game within single digits. From there, the Warhawks gave it their best effort, but the Bobcats would go on to outscore ULM 24-11 in the third to make the game a 55-52 lead heading into the last quarter. Burks ended the third quarter with a buzzer-beater three to give the Bobcats the lead.
Â
The fourth quarter was efficient from the Bobcats, scoring 24 points on 10-12 shooting to keep the Warhawks comeback attempt at bay. While succeeding defensively at limiting ULM to 6-14 shooting, Anderson and Burks combined for 15 points to both finish the game with more than 20 points. This was the Bobcats first game with two 20+ point scorers since Ja'Kayla Bowie and Kennedy Taylor did it at SFA in 2023.
Â
Texas State is now 5-6 on the season after today's game, and 2-0 in Sun Belt play.
