Softball to Resume Game with Sam Houston on Wednesday

HUNTSVILLE, Texas – Texas State softball will head to Huntsville to finish its halted game and play another on Wednesday, with the first game beginning at 4:30 pm.

On Feb. 18, Texas State and Sam Houston had to halt a game at the end of the 4th inning with the Bobcats winning 7-1 in San Marcos. The game will resume on Wednesday, April 2 at 4:30 pm. Following that game, Texas State will play an entire game with the Bearkats as was originally scheduled at the beginning of the season.

Texas State comes into the week with an 21-10 record, having a 5-4 record in Sun Belt action after a series at Marshall. Texas State will look to bounce back in the games with Sam Houston.
 
GAME NOTES
ABOUT THE BOBCATS:
Texas State is coming off a 47-win campaign and an appearance in the NCAA College Station Regional after winning the Sun Belt Conference Tournament in 2024. The Bobcats were selected to finish 1st in the Sun Belt Conference Preseason poll.

The Bobcats have a new look to them this year, but return key position players like outfielders Ciara Trahan, Emilee Baker, and Sydney Harvey, pitchers Maddy Azua, Presley Glende, Analisa Soliz and Abigail Jennings, catchers Karmyn Bass, Makayla Hall, and Megan Kelnar.

The Bobcats also brought in four transfers, all from Power 4 schools, Aiyana Coleman (Texas A&M), Keely Williams (Texas A&M), Kate Bubela (UNC), Emma Strood (LSU) to round out the team.

Also joining the team was seven freshmen. Through 31 games so far, 25% of Texas State's starters have been freshmen. Erin Peterson leads the freshmen with 31 consecutive starts at shortstop, but Mayson Garrett (25 starts) has also made her mark on the team early in her freshmen campaign.

The Bobcats currently have four players batting above .300, led by Aiyana Coleman at .388. Coleman leads the team in hits (31), home runs (12) and RBI (31) Rounding out the top of the order is Megan Kelnar (.375), Ciara Trahan (.341) and Keely Williams (.322).
 
ABOUT THE BEARKATS:
Sam Houston comes into the week with a 17-19 record on the season, with a 6-6 record so far in CUSA play. Last weekend the Bearkats were swept by the New Mexico State. 
 
The Bearkats have two batters batting above .300 this season, highlighted by Jenny Robison (390). Brodie Quinlan also has the next best batting average with .319. Bella Perez leads the team with 21 RBI.
 
The Bearkats most effective pitcher is Abigail Young who leads the team with a 49.2 ERA in 13 appearances so far. They also have Amy Abke who has a 3.00 ERA in 65.1 innings of work.
 
UP NEXT:
Texas State will return home for a three-game series with South Alabama from April 4-6. The first game on April 4 will start at 6 pm. All three games will be streamed on ESPN+.
