SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State had seven athletes—
Abigail Parra (mile & 800m),
Kason O'Riley (high jump),
Aiden Hayes (high jump),
Koket Jimata (3000m),
Henok Hagos (3000m),Â
Melanie Duron (shot put) and
Michael Hermes (heptathlon)—enter the Texas State record book on day two of the Charlie Thomas Invitational.
"We had athletes in so many areas step up this weekend," said Texas State head coach
John Frazier. "But huge shout out to
Kason O'Riley, who tops the national high jump rankings with a record-breaking facility performance, while
Taejha Badal runs the leading 200m time in the Sun Belt, and
Abigail Parra sets a school record in the mile. This gives our team high hopes going into our last competition before the SBC Indoor Championships."
Parra found the record book in both the 800m and the mile on Saturday. In the mile, she placed fourth, recorded a school record time of 4:42.69, and beat the previous record by over four seconds. She went on to place seventh in the 800m and recorded a 2:10.81, which is the eighth-best time in TXST history.
O'Riley placed first overall in the high jump and recorded an NCAA-leading jump of 2.25m. His mark broke the Texas A&M facility record and his PR by .05m. He now has the second- and third-best marks in TXST history.
Hayes placed right behind O'Riley in second place. Hayes recorded a mark of 2.10m, which tied his SB mark and placed him tied for seventh in the TXST record book. He sits in third place for the event in the SBC.
Hagos and Jimata, who found the record book yesterday, both entered TXST history in the 3000m. Hagos placed fourth overall and recorded a time of 8:25.40, which is the seventh-best time in Bobcat history. Jimata marked the eighth-best time and placed fifth overall with a time of 8:26.16.
Duron entered the record book after her throw of 16.57m. Her mark earned her second place and was the third-best mark in school history for the event. She now leads the SBC for the event and is the only athlete to record a mark of 16 meters.
In his first heptathlon as a Texas State Bobcat, Hermes placed fifth overall and totaled 5104 points. His point total is the eighth best in TXST history.Â
Taejha Badal placed seventh in the finals of the women's 60m with a time of 7.44. She also placed seventh in the semifinals earlier in the day with a time of 7.42.
In the women's high jump, freshman
Kendall Lemm recorded an SBC-leading mark of 1.73m and finished in fourth place with her new PR.
The jump squad also performed well in the women's triple jump, as
Precious Okougbodu placed fourth with a mark of 12.18m.
