Bobcats Face Chippewas Saturday in MAC-SBC Challenge

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The final non-conference game of the season takes Texas State (12-12) to Michigan (10-12) to face Central Michigan on Saturday at 4 p.m. CT from the McGuirk Arena. The contest is part of the MAC-SBC Challenge, an event that has seen the Bobcats post a 3-0 record.

About Texas State
TXST is looking to end a four-game losing streak on Saturday. The team fell by 11 at Old Dominion on Wednesday despite a 23-point performance from Tylan Pope and a 15-point, 10-rebound double-double courtesy of Joshua O'Garro.

Pope paces the Bobcats offensively at 15.8 points per game while shooting a Sun Belt Conference best 53.1% from the field. He has blocked 39 shots, which is the seventh most in a season in program history.

Kaden Gumbs enters having handed out 100 assists. He is the first Texas State player to reach the century mark in assists in a season since Marlin Davis had 126 in the 2019-20 campaign. Gumbs is also netting 12.0 ppg and is shooting a conference leading 86.5% at the free throw line.

A team-high 7.2 rebounds per game are being grabbed by Joshua O'Garro, who is also putting up 9.6 ppg. Coleton Benson also has a 9.6 ppg mark behind a team best 34 made three-pointers. Both Dylan Dawson (25) and Drue Drinnon (24) have knocked down more than 20 long-distance attempts.

About Central Michigan
The Chippewas are coming off a 76-70 loss at home on Tuesday to Miami (OH). They have alternated wins and losses over their last six games. At home, CMU is 6-4 with a 3-2 record in non-conference contests.

Jakobi Heady is netting 13.5 ppg on 42.3% shooting and just 18.8% (15-of-80) on three-pointers. He has made a team best 80.0% of his charity stripe shots and is second on the team with 6.6 rpg and 24 steals. Just behind him offensively is Ugnius Jaruesvicius at 13.3 ppg while also grabbing a team-high 6.7 rpg.

Anthony Pritchard is putting up 12.7 ppg, 4.8 apg and has recorded 48 steals. Kyle VanderJagt is netting 11.6 ppg. He has made 31 three-pointers and is one of three to have made at least 30 shots from beyond the arc along with Cayden Vasko (33) and Damarion Bonds (30).

Series History
Just once before have the teams faced off. That game took place in Mount Pleasant, Michigan on Dec. 20, 2012. That day saw Texas State fall 92-80 despite a 20-point, 10-rebound game from Joel Wright.
