Women's Track and Field Crowned SBC Indoor Champions

The women's team placed first and the men's team placed third at the SBC Indoor Championships

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – For the first time since 2019, the Texas State women's track and field team won the Sun Belt Conference Championships after totaling 108 points throughout the two days of competition.

The men's team finished third with 97.5 points, which is its best finish since 2022 when they placed second overall.

The Bobcats had a dominant performance in both the women's and men's shot put. In the women's shot put, Melanie Duron set the TXST, SBC, and SBC meet records during her first-place performance. Duron recorded a mark of 18.21 meters and now sits eighth in the NCAA for the event.

Joining her on the podium was Lauryn Small, who recorded a season-best mark of 15.49m and placed third overall.

On the men's side of the shot put, Henry Buckles earned gold in the event and recorded a PR mark of 19.91m. His mark set the school record and tied the SBC meet record. He is now ranked fifth in the NCAA for the event.

The Bobcats also found the podium in the women's and men's 200m. Taejha Badal placed first in the event with a PR of 23.37, recording the second-fastest time in school history.

In the men's 200m, Drew Donley placed second in his first SBC conference appearance and recorded a time of 21.31.

The duo of Kason O'Riley and Aiden Hayes finished first and second in the high jump. O'Riley recorded an SBC meet-record mark of 2.21m, while Hayes recorded a mark of 2.18m.

Abigail Parra found the podium twice during the final day of the SBC meet. Parra placed second in the mile, recording the second-best time in school history at 4:46.62. She also placed second in the 800m with a PR time of 2:09.61, which is the fourth-best time in TXST history.

The women's jump squad recorded two second-place finishes on the final day of the SBC meet. Chinenye Uzoh recorded a PR of 1.74m and placed second overall in the high jump.

In the triple jump, Precious Okougbodu placed second with a mark of 12.89 meters, which sealed the women's team indoor conference title.

Michael Hermes earned his first SBC podium finish in the heptathlon. Hermes placed third overall, scoring 5,175 points, which is the eighth-best point total in school history.
