Macias Leads Bobcats with Individual Win at Old Glory Gallup

FORT WORTH, Texas – Texas State cross country delivered another strong performance in its third meet of the season at the DBU Old Glory Gallup in Fort Worth. The women's team placed third in the 5K, while the men's team finished sixth in the 8K.

Both the women's and men's races featured about 50 schools and 400 runners.

The women's squad's third-place finish tallied 127 points, with four runners finishing in the top 50.

Junior Alexia Tiscareno Macias claimed the individual title in the women's 5K with a personal-best time of 17:17.57, shattering her previous record by nearly 30 seconds set at the UIW Invitational. As the Old Glory Gallup champion, Macias earned a custom crowned cowboy hat.

Macias has now captured two individual titles this season. The UIW Twilight and the DBU Old Glory Gallup, and also placed fourth at the Bobcats' previous meet, the UIW Invitational.

Senior Abigail Parra joined Macias in the top five, finishing third with a time of 17:19.71.

Rounding out the Bobcats' top-50 finishers were Nyomi Garcia finishing 33rd in 18:29.60 and Destiney Rose placing 39th with a time of 18:35.53.

On the men's side, Texas State totaled 154 points in sixth-place and had six runners finish in the top 50.

In his season debut, Henok Hagos led the Bobcats with a fifth-place finish, crossing the line in 24:09.92. He was followed by Jack Deelman in 28th with a time of 24:25.20, and Anthony Parra in 36th finishing in 24:53.86.

Three Bobcats finished just seconds apart to close out the top 50: Anthony Sandoval (47th, 25:04.30), Elias Palmer (48th, 25:05.21), and David Mendez-Serrato (49th, 25:07.05).

Texas State will have a quick turnaround as they will travel to College Station on Friday, Oct. 17, for the Arturo Barrios Invitational, hosted by Texas A&M.
