SAN MARCOS, Texas – After recording back-to-back 20-10 double-doubles this past week, Texas State's Tylan Pope was named the Lou Henson National Player of the Week on Monday.
The redshirt senior averaged 24.0 points, 12.0 rebounds and 4.0 blocks per game while shooting 51.5% from the field in helping lead the Bobcats to victories over Georgia State and Southern Miss.
He began the week with a 20-point, 12-rebound performance with a 9-for-13 night from the field and knocking down both of this three-point attempts in a 94-80 victory over the Panthers. That contest also saw him register three blocks, two assists and two steals.
In a rematch with Southern Miss from just a week early, Pope scored a career-high 28 points and grabbed 12 rebounds while also matching his career best of five blocks in an 85-82 overtime win. The Franklinton, La. native was 8-for-20 shooting and went 11-for-14 at the free throw line, including knocking down the game-tying free throw with 9.1 seconds remaining to send the game into overtime.
Next up for Pope and TXST is a meeting at Louisiana on Thursday at 3 p.m.
