SAN ANTONIO, Texas – At its first meet of the season, the UIW Twilight, the Texas State women's cross country team placed second overall in the 4k and scored 56 points, while the men's team finished third in the 6k and tallied 96 points. 

On the women's side, three Bobcats placed inside the top 10 at the season opener. Abigail Parra finished fourth overall and recorded a new PR of 14:12, which bests her previous PR of 15:17 by over a minute. Freshman Nyomi Garcia finished sixth overall in her Texas State cross country debut. Garcia recorded a time of 14:24, which set her collegiate PR in the event.

Our lady of the Lake transfer, Kristen Torres, made her Texas State debut and finished in seventh. Torres finished five seconds behind Garcia and set a new PR of 14:29. 
Sophomore Sanai Robinson and Rebecca Davila, both made their Bobcat cross country debuts tonight and placed inside the top 25. Robinson finished 17^th overall with a time of 14:41 and broke her previous PR of 15:10. Davila set her collegiate PR in the 4k with a time of 14:47 and placed 22^nd at the season opener. 

Overall, the women's team tallied 56 points and finished eight points behind Incarnate Word, who won the meet with a total of 48 points. 

For the second year in a row, the Texas State men's cross country team finished in the top 3 of the UIW Twilight. After a second-place finish in 2022, the men's team placed third this year and totaled 96 points in the men's 6k race. 

The Bobcats had three athletes placed inside the top 25, which was two shy of their total from last year's meet.

Senior, Koket Jimata, placed 11^th overall and recorded a time of 18:29, which was 35 seconds faster than his previous PR of 19:04. The second Bobcat to finish the race was sophomore Jack Deelman, who finished in 20^th. Deelman recorded a time of 18:48 and destroyed his previous PR of 20:26.6 from his freshman campaign. 

Fellow Sophomore Nathan Morales placed 22nd overall and finished one second behind Deelman with a time of 18:49. Morales bested his previous PR of 18:54, which he set last year at the UIW Twilight. 

The Bobcats return to action on September 13, when they head to Weatherford, Texas to compete in the UIW Invitational.
