Bobcats set for 2024 NCAA Track and Field National Championships

10 members of the Texas State track and field team will compete during the four days of competition

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Ten members of the Texas State track and field team, the most in school history, are set to compete at the 2024 NCAA National Championships in Eugene Oregon. The four-day meet begins Wednesday and the action continues into Saturday. 
 
Bobcats Competing at the NCAA Championships
 
Women's Hammer Throw 
Elisabet Runarsdottir and Lara Roberts will both represent Texas State in the women's hammer throw competition on Thursday at 5 p.m. CT. Together the duo is ranked as the No. 2 women's hammer throw event squad in the nation according to USTFCCCA.
 
Runarsdottir comes into the competition as the No. 1 ranked hammer thrower in the country, with her personal-record mark of 70.33m/230-9. She qualified for the meet after placing second at the NCAA West Prelims two weeks ago, with a throw of 67.58m/221-9.
 
This marks the second time the sophomore will compete in the NCAA National Championships in the event. Last year she placed 7th at the meet, with a throw of 66.98m/219-9. She joins Inez Turner, Allie Saunders, Chelsie Decoud and Mylana Hearn, as the only members of the women's team to compete in multiple National Championships
 
Roberts qualified for the National Championships after placing third at the NCAA West Prelims, where she recorded a new PR of 67.40m/221-1. For the duration of the 2024 season, she has been ranked the No.1 freshman in the country and is one of three freshmen competing in the event on Thursday. 
  
Women's 4x100 Meter Relay 
Kaylee Lewis, Ma'Khi Falkquay, Taejha Badal and Kerris Roberts, make up the women's 4x100m relay that competes in the semifinals round on Thursday at 7:32 p.m. CT. In order to qualify for the finals of the event on Saturday, the relay team must place inside the top 12 of the 24 teams competing in the semifinals. 
 
The four athletes became the first women's relay team to qualify for the National Championships in school history, after they placed 11th and set the school record  for the event with a time of 43.85 at the West Prelims. 
 
For Lewis, Falkquay and Badal, this will be their first time competing at the NCAA National Championships and this marks Roberts' second appearance, as she qualified with the Purdue 4x100m relay in 2022.

Men's 4x100 Meter Relay 
Shedrack Akpeki, Daniel Harrold, Shawn Collins and Dominick Yancy, make up the men's 4x100m relay that will compete in the semifinals of the NCAA National Championships at 4:32 p.m. CT on Wednesday. 
 
For Harrold and Yancy, this will be their second appearance at the NCAA National Championships. The duo was a part of the 4x100m relay that qualified in 2018 and placed 22nd overall. Collins and Akpeki will be making their first appearance at the meet. 
 
The relay qualified for the National Championships after they placed 10th overall at the West Prelims and recorded a 39.48, which was the third-best time in Texas State History.
