FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – On the final day of the NCAA West Prelims, Texas State's women's 4x100m relay consisting of,
Kaylee Lewis,
Ma'Khi Falkquay,
Kerris Roberts and
Taejha Badal, qualified for the 2024 NCAA National Championships in Eugene, Oregon.Â
"We have had a very successful track and field outdoor season," said Director of Texas State Track and Field/Cross Country
John Frazier. "On day one for the women's team, having Elisabet and Lara qualify for the hammer final put us on a path for a great start. What a great opportunity to take both our men's and women's 4 x 100 relay teams to Eugene, Oregon for the final, this was a historic competition for Texas State track and field. We had so many great performances across-the-board this year and many young athletes who will return to our team for the 2025 season."

Lewis, Falkquay, Roberts and Badal made history on day four, when they became the first women's 4x100m team to qualify for the National Championships in Texas State history.Â

During the event, they recorded a time of 43.85 and broke the previous school record of 44.09Â that was set last season.Â

The women's 4x100m relay placed 11th overall and finished fifth in their heat, which featured Baylor (42.66) and Arkansas (42.70), who had the two-best times overall.Â

The final day of the NCAA West Prelims began with the women's discus throw, which featured Texas State's
Utitofon Sam and
Lauryn Small. Sam placed 20th overall and tied the 8th-best throw in Texas State history, with a mark of 54.60m/179-1.Â

She has recorded five marks this season that have placed inside the top-10 in the Texas State record book.Â

Small, in her first NCAA West Prelims appearance, recorded a mark of 46.56m/152-9.

Bobcats Making History
- 10 Bobcats in total will be featured at the 2024 NCAA National Championships, which is the most in school history and broke the previous record of six set in 1989.Â
- First time in school history the women's team has qualified for Nationals in the 4x100m relay.Â
- First time in Texas State's history that two relay teams (men's and women's 4x100)Â have qualified for Nationals during the same season.
- First time in school history multiple athletes from the women's team have qualified for Nationals in the hammer throw.
