MONROE, La. – The Texas State women's track and field team won the 2024 Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championship, after earning 120.2 points across three days of competition. This is the first time since 2018 the women's team has won the conference title and is the third women's SBC Outdoor Track and Field title in Texas State history.
The women's conference title was secured when the 4x400m relay team consisting of,
Kerrington Johnson,
Daneille Lynch,
Ma'Khi Falkquay and
Taejha Badal, placed sixth and recorded a time of 3:34.07. Their sixth-place finish earned the Bobcats three points and clinched the Sun Belt Outdoor Track and Field Championship,
The men's team earned second place and complied 118 points throughout the three-day meet. South Alabama won the title on the men's side, after earning 143 total points.
On the final day of competition, five-individual Bobcats consisting of,
Utitofon Sam (women's discus throw),
Chris Preddie (men's triple jump),
Shawn Collins (men's 100 meters),
Dominick Yancy (men's 200 meters) and
Daniel Harrold (men's 110m hurdles), all placed first in their respective events.
The men's 4x400m relay of, Yancy,
Taahir Kelly,
Kashawn Baptiste and Collins, placed first with a time of 3:06.92 and recorded the seventh-fastest time in Texas State history. This marked the fourth consecutive year the men's 4x400 relay has placed first at the SBC Outdoor Championships.
In the women's discus throw, Sam won the event with a mark of 54.76m/179-8 and set the Sun Belt Conference meet record. Her mark also set the facility record for ULM's Brown Stadium and was the sixth-best throw in Texas State history.
Preddie earned his second SBC title of the meet, when he placed first in the men's triple jump and recorded a mark of 15.61m/51-2.75. His jump tied the eighth-best mark in Texas State history. He now holds the conference title in the long and triple jump for both indoors and outdoors.
Collins set a new PR of 10.27 and placed first in the men's 100 meters. He tied the Texas State school record, which had gone untouched for 44 years, since it was set in 1979 by Elton Francis. He also placed second in the men's 200 meters, with a time of 20.57 and registered the third-fastest time in Texas State history for the event.
Yancy earned his first SBC Outdoor title in the men's 200 meters on Saturday, after recording a 20.48 and registered the second fastest wind-legal time in school history.
In the men's 110m hurdles,
Daniel Harrold placed first and broke ULM's facility record for the second time in two days. He recorded the second-fastest time (wind legal) in school history, with a mark of 13.45. He is ranked No.4 in the NCAA West Region and No. 5 in the nation.
Harrold was a part of the men's 4x100m relay along with, Yancy, Collins and Kelly, that placed second and recorded a 39.66. Their mark of 39.66 is the second-fastest time in Texas State history.
Abigail Parra found the podium in the women's 1500 meters, when she placed second and recorded a time of 4:28.84. Her time was the fourth-best mark in school history for the event. She also recorded a PR in the 5000 meters and placed fifth overall, which secured four-crucial points for the women's team.
The women's 4x100m relay team made up of, Badal, Falkquay,
Kerris Roberts and
Kaylee Lewis, earned a second-place finish and recorded a time of 44.11, which is the second-best time in school history.
Falkquay had an amazing day on the track and found the podium twice more in her individual events. In the 100 meters, she placed third, with a time of 11.56 and she placed third in the 200 meters, with a PR mark of 23.55.
Badal found the podium in the 200 meters as well. She recorded a time of 23.45 and placed second overall in the event.
Before earning a gold medal with the men's 4x400m relay, Baptiste recorded a PR of 46.95 and took home a bronze medal in the event.
Next up for the Bobcats, is the NCAA West Regionals in Fayetteville, Arkansas. More information on the meet and which Bobcats will be participating will be released later this week.
