NEW ORLEANS – Junior
Daylan Pena helped lead Texas State to four victories last week with his performance garnering Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week honors. It is the first weekly award in his career and he is the second Bobcat to receive the accolade after
Chase Mora claimed it two weeks ago.
Â
Pena paced TXST with a .444 average (8-for-18) with three home runs, nine RBI, five runs scored and one stolen base. He also posted a .565 OBP and 1.111 SLG%.
Â
The Corpus Christi, Texas native had a 2-for-4 day against HCU with a double and two RBI. He followed in the series opener against App State he was 1-for-1, scored once, drove in a run, swiped a base and was walked three times.
Â
Pena had a big day at the plate in the run-rule series clinching victory on Saturday. He was 3-for-5 with six RBI and scored thrice. All three of his hits were homers, that tied for the most by a Sun Belt player this season. His first two long balls came in an eight-run second inning as he became the first Bobcat on record (since 2003) to hit two home runs in the same inning.
Â
The junior wrapped up the weekend with two base knocks, including a triple, in the finale against the Mountaineers. He drove in a run on his triple, which was the 100th RBI of his career.
Â
Pena and the rest of the Bobcats return to action tonight at 6 p.m. when they host I-35 rival UTSA.
