Bobcat Women's Basketball Returns Nov. 4 at Eastern Michigan

YPSILANTI, Michigan — Texas State women's basketball is officially back on Monday, Nov. 4 as the 2024-2025 season gets underway. The Bobcats first opponent will be Eastern Michigan as part of the second year of the MAC-SBC Challenge. The game is slated for a 5:30 pm tip-off with a stream on ESPN+.
 
SERIES HISTORY
  • Texas State has never played Eastern Michigan in program history. This is the Bobcats first trip to the state of Michigan under the tenure of Head Coach Zenarae Antoine.
 
HISTORY IN THE MAC-SBC CHALLENGE
  • Texas State won both its games in the inaugural season of the MAC-SBC Challenge.
  • In the  first meeting it beat Bowling Green at home 74-48.
  • On the road last season, Texas State faced Ohio and won 80-71 on the road.
  • The Sun Belt Conference won the inaugural season of the MAC-SBC Challenge, winning 29 of the 48 meetings between the men's and women's sides of the two conferences.
 
MEET THE ROSTER
  • The Freshmen: Texas State has added four freshman, Heather Baymon, Saniya Burks, Takeira Ramey, and Melinda Winston.
    • Three of the four freshmen played high school basketball in the state of Texas (Burks, Baymon, Winston) while Ramey is the lone freshmen coming from out of state.
  • The Transfers: Texas State has added six transfers, including five Division I transfers. 
  • The Returners: Antoine returns five members from 2023-2024 to this year's team.
 
ABOUT THE EAGLES
  • Eastern Michigan finished the 2023-2024 season with a 7-22 record, going 5-8 at home that season.
  • New at the helm of the program is first year head coach Sahar Nussiebeh who joins the program after spending the last three seasons as head coach of Canisius University. 
  • Nussiebeh contrsuctred her new roster at Eastern Michigan with five transfers from her prior school Canisius who were part of one of the greatest turnarounds in program history in the 2023-24 season.
  • The Eagles return just seven members of their 2023-2024 team.
