Men's and Women's Cross Country Finish Fifth at Sun Belt Conference Meet

For the first time since 2019 both the men's and women's teams placed in the top-5

FOLEY, Ala. – The Texas State men's and women's cross country teams each earned a fifth-place finish at the 2024 Sun Belt Conference Cross Country Championships on Friday. 
 
The men's team scored 119 points in the 8K and finished with an average time of 25:57, which marked its lowest point total and average time since the 2021 season.  
 
The women's team tallied 130 points in the 5K and recorded an average time of 18:32, which marked its lowest since the 2019 season. 
 
This is the first time since 2019 that both the men's and women's cross-country teams have both finished inside the top five at the SBC Cross Country Championships. It is also the first time since 2020 that a Bobcat from both the men's and women's teams have earned All-Sun Belt honors at the same meet. 
 
App State took home both the men's and women's conference titles at the 2024 SBC Cross Country Championships. The men's team finished with 30 points, while the women's team finished with 45 points. 
 
On the women's side, Abigail Parra led the Bobcats and placed 15th overall, with a time of 18:12. Parra earned All-Sun Belt Third Team honors and became the first Texas State women's cross-country runner since 2020 to earn SBC honors at the conference meet.  
 
Closely behind Parra were Bobcats Nyomi Garcia and Kristen Torres. Garcia, a freshman, placed 20th overall with a time of 18:23:23 and was the second highest-placing freshman at the meet. 
 
Torres finished in 18:23:80 and placed 21st overall. She tallied 21 points for the Bobcats and recorded her second best 5K time of the season. 
 
On the men's side, Koket Jimata led the team with a 14th place finish and earned All-Sun Belt Third Team honors. Jimata recorded a time of 25:19 and became the second Bobcat on the men's side in the past two seasons to earn All-Sun Belt honors. 
 
Closely behind Jimata, was Texas State freshman Henok Hagos who placed 19th overall. Hagos recorded a time of 25:30.20 and was one of five freshmen to finish in the top 20.
 
Anthony Sandoval was the third Bobcat to cross the finish line. Sandavol placed 23rd overall and recorded a time of 25:42:20.
