SAN MARCOS, Texas – The opening homestand of 2024 concludes on Saturday for Texas State (6-8, 0-2 Sun Belt) with a 4 p.m. contest against Marshall (7-8, 2-0 Sun Belt) in Strahan Arena.

About Texas State
The Bobcats dropped their second straight game to open Sun Belt Conference play with a setback to Coastal Carolina. It is the second straight season in which they have dropped their first two conference games.
Coleton Benson lead the team in scoring for the second contest in a row with 15 points on Thursday to increase his season scoring average to 10.8 points per game behind nine made three-pointers.
Jordan Mason leads the team at 13.8 ppg while his 14 steals are tied for the most with
Kaden Gumbs. The freshman points guard is handing out 4.2 assists a contest, grabbing 4.5 rebounds per game and netting 9.9 ppg.
Also with a double-digit scoring mark is
Brandon Love at 10.4 ppg. He ranks second in the Sun Belt with 32 blocks and leads the squad with 5.6 rpg.
Davion Sykes made his season debut on Thursday after a preseason injury. He scored eight points on 4-of-6 shooting, grabbed four rebounds and recorded three steals.
About Marshall
The Thundering Herd come into Saturday having won two straight and four of the last five. Wednesday saw them defeat ULM on the road 68-57. When playing away from home, Marshall is 3-5 and has a 2-2 mark in true road games.
Four players are averaging double-digits offensively led by Obinna Anochili-Killen at 15.8 ppg. He is second on the team with 6.8 rpg and 18 blocks. Kevon Voyles is putting up 13.5 ppg and has recorded a team-high 24 steals while Kamdyn Curfman has made a team best 42 three-pointers on his way to averaging 12.8 ppg.
Former Bobcat
Nate Martin is close to averaging a double-double on the season at 11.1 ppg and 9.5 rpg. He paces the Herd with 24 blocks and a 57.8% shooting mark.
All-Time Series vs. Thundering Herd
The all-time series between Marshall and Texas State is tied 1-1 with both previous meetings coming last season. The Herd won the regular season meeting 81-73 in San Marcos on Jan. 19, 2023. In the Sun Belt Conference Tournament quarterfinals, the Bobcats got revenge with a 71-68 victory as
Mason Harrell hit a one-handed fadeaway with less than seven seconds remaining to seal the contest.
