SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State men's basketball team (7-11, 1-5 Sun Belt) is back in action in Strahan Arena on Saturday when it hosts Arkansas State (7-11, 3-3 Sun Belt) at 4:15 p.m. The game will be part of a Gold Rush doubleheader with the women's team where the first 700 fans will receive gold rally towels.
Also being given away will be "Victory Star" glasses and gold beads. There will be golf photo opportunities, as well, prior to the contest.

Coming off a loss on Wednesday to Louisiana, the Bobcats are still looking for their first home win of the 2024 calendar year. Both
Kaden Gumbs and
Davion Sykes had career-high nights offensively against the Ragin' Cajuns. Gumbs totaled a team-high 17 points while Sykes added 16 points coming off the bench. As a team, TXST shot 94.4% at the free throw line to mark the third consecutive season they have posted that mark in a contest.
Jordan Mason paces the team at 13.0 points per game while making a team best 73.9% of his charity stripe attempts. He has also dished out 44 assists and recorded 16 steals.
Brandon Love has been a force in a post with 11.5 ppg and a team-high 5.9 rebounds a contest and ranks second in the Sun Belt Conference with 36 blocks.
Gumbs' performance on Wednesday increased his scoring average to 10.4 ppg. The freshman is dishing out a team-high 3.9 assists per game and leads Texas State with 18 steals.
Both
Coleton Benson (9.8) and
Dylan Dawson (9.0) are netting at least nine points a game. The duo are also the team's top two three-pointer shooters with Dawson having made 29 treys and Benson knocking down 18 attempts.
About Arkansas State
The Red Wolves have dropped two straight games after beating the Bobcats last Thursday. Overall, ASU is 1-8 in true road games with the lone victory being against Louisville on Dec. 13. The last three road games have seen the Red Wolves fall by a combined eight points.
Dyondre Dominguez enters the game nearly averaging a double-double at 13.3 ppg and 8.3 rpg. He is second on the team with 37 made three-pointers and third with 41 assists and 13 blocks. Caleb Fields, the reigning Sun Belt Player of the Week, is putting up 12.6 ppg, handing out a team-high 5.4 apg and shooting a team best 47.7% from the field.
Taryn Todd comes in netting 11.1 ppg and paces ASU with 19 steals. The fourth player with a double-digit scoring mark is Freddy Hicks at 10.2.
For the season, the Red Wolves have made 183 three-point attempts. A team leading 41 have been knocked down by Avery Felts, who has made 45 shots on the year. Derrian Ford comes in having knocked down 32 attempts from beyond the arc.
All-Time Series vs. Red Wolves
Texas State leads the all-time series 13-5 after Arkansas State's 85-82 win last week in Jonesboro. That road loss snapped a four-game winning streak in the series for the Bobcats.
When hosting the Red Wolves, the Bobcats are 7-1 all-time. The last meeting was a 66-62 victory for TXST that saw five Bobcats score at least 10 points. The lone home loss to ASU was the first-ever meeting between the programs on Jan. 4, 2014 by a score of 74-69.
