TXST Hits the Road to Take on Red Wolves

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State men's basketball team (6-9, 0-3 Sun Belt) is back on the road for two games this weekend beginning on Thursday at Arkansas State (6-9, 2-1 Sun Belt). Tip is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. from the First National Bank Arena.

About Texas State
The Bobcats have dropped four straight games, their longest skid since losing nine consecutive contests to close out the 2017-18 regular season. They are looking to avoid their first 0-4 start in Sun Belt Conference play since joining the conference.
 
Leading TXST offensively is Jordan Mason at 13.4 points per game. The sophomore is shooting 42.6% from the field and has made a team-high 76.9% of his free throw attempts. He is dishing out a team-high 4.3 assists a contest and is second on the squad with 14 steals.
 
Brandon Love is coming off a career-high 23-point performance against Marshall that increased his scoring average to 11.3 ppg. The junior comes in with a team best 5.8 rpg and ranks second in the conference with 34 blocks and 2.3 rejections per game.
 
Also with a double-digit scoring mark is Kaden Gumbs at 10.3 ppg. The San Marcos native is also averaging 4.5 rpg, 4.1 apg and leads the team with 16 steals.
 
About Arkansas State
Last weekend saw the Red Wolves defeat Georgia Southern (109-83) and Old Dominion (90-75) at home. Those contests were the first of four straight for ASU in Jonesboro. Overall, the Red Wolves are 4-1 at home with non-conference wins against Alcorn State and UAB while the lone defeat came against Jackson State.
 
Four players are averaging double-digits led by Dyondre Dominguez at 13.8 ppg while adding 8.7 rpg. Taryn Todd enters putting up 11.3 ppg and has recorded a team-high 18 steals. Caleb Fields comes in contributing 10.1 ppg and Freddy Hicks is netting 11.0 ppg but hasn't played since Dec. 20 at Belmont.
 
ASU is shooting 35.4% from beyond the arc and has made 157 three-point attempts. Avery Felts leads the way with 36 treys followed by Dominguez with 31. Also with more than 20 made threes is Derrian Ford (26).
 
All-Time Series vs. Red Wolves
Texas State enters Thursday leading the all-time series 13-4 and has won the last three contests. After Arkansas State won the first three matchups, the Bobcats won 10 straight and 13 of the last 14. The lone loss in the last 14 games was a 67-60 contest on Jan. 22, 2022 in Jonesboro.
 
When playing ASU on the road, TXST is 6-3 all-time. Last year in Jonesboro saw the Bobcats win 61-58 behind a 15-point game from Mason Harrell.
