Six Bobcats Earn CSC Academic All-District

All six earned their first career academic all-district awards

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Daniel Harrold, Tyler Noles, Mathilde Canet, Cara Johnson, Megan Ombres and Katherine Stuckly were all named to the 2023 Academic All-District Men's and Women's Track and Field/Cross Country Teams, as selected and announced by the College Sports Communicators (CSC).

An honor that recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances in athletics and in the classroom, the six Bobcats all received their first career Academic All-District awards.

Academic All-District honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America ballot. First, second and third team Academic All-America honorees will be announced on June 28 for the women and June 29 for the men.

Harrold was a two-time Sun Belt individual champion this year during the indoor and outdoor seasons and accumulated three total medals at conference meets. The senior won the 60 meter hurdles at the indoor championships and then helped the men's 4x100 relay finish first at the outdoor championships. He also finished third in the 110 meter hurdles finals during the outdoor championships.

Out of Houston, Texas, Harrold qualified for the NCAA West Prelims twice in his career at Texas State and was an All-America Honorable Mention in the 4x100 relay in 2022. He is a public relations major with a 3.50 GPA

Noles competed in shot put, weight throw, hammer throw and discus over the 2023 indoor and outdoor seasons. In his final campaign as a Bobcat, the senior scored 10 points at the Sun Belt Indoor Championships with a pair of fourth-place finishes in the shot put and weight throw. During the outdoor season, he had personal-bests in all three throwing events (discus, shot put, hammer) and won his first ever collegiate meet with a first-place finish in discus at the UTSA Invitational in March.

A product of Georgetown, Texas, Noles has been a member of Texas State track and field since 2018-19. He is an exercise and sports science major who finished with a 3.60 GPA.

Canet had a strong indoor season in 2023, culminating with a pentathlon title at the Sun Belt Indoor Championships. She set the school record in the pentathlon with 3,914 points at the conference meet and holds the five highest point totals in the event in program history.

Originally from Clermont-Ferrrand, France, Canet is currently working towards her master's degree in biochemistry. She has a 3.58 GPA.

Johnson, in her first year as a Bobcat, competed in both the indoor and outdoor seasons this year. After competing in the 60 meter dash and 200 meters in indoor, she helped the women's 4x100 relay win the 2023 Sun Belt Outdoor championship with a then-school record time of 44.46. She then helped the 4x100 set a new program-best at the NCAA West Prelims in Sacramento with a time of 44.09.

From St. Louis, Mo., Johnson is pursuing her master's degree in sustainability studies and has a 4.0 GPA.

Ombres put together her best season as a Bobcat in her final year of eligibility this season. She finished fourth in the women's 3000 meter steeplechase at the Sun Belt Outdoor Championships, scoring five points for the Bobcats' runner-up team finish. She finished top-four in the steeplechase in all five of her outdoor meets, including a first-place finish at the Charles Austin Classic in March. She also ran a pair of sub-11 minute races in the event, which made her the first Bobcat to do that since 2019 and only the fifth performer to do that in Texas State history.

Out of Leander, Texas, Ombres graduated this spring with a bachelor's degree in criminal justice and a 3.89 GPA. She was also a member of the Texas State University Army ROTC and commissioned as a military intelligence officer earlier in May.

Stuckly completed her Texas State career this year by adding two more conference medals to her collection – which now stands at six in her career – and her third career appearance at the NCAA West Prelims. She finished runner-up in the women's high jump in both the Sun Belt Indoor and Outdoor Championships. She also won two different outdoor meets in the high jump. In five years as a Bobcat, Stuckly won three conference titles and finished first at a meet 10 times.

A product of Ennis, Texas, Stuckly completed her bachelor's degree in industrial engineering with a 3.56 GPA.

To be eligible for Academic All-District and Academic All-America honors, nominees must participate in 50 percent of competitions that a school schedules during the cross country, indoor track and field, or outdoor track and field seasons. The student-athlete must have a 3.5 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale at their institution. No student-athlete is eligible until they have completed one full calendar year at their current institution and been on a college roster in that sport for two years. In the case of graduate transfers, they are eligible if they are competing at a different institution than the one from which they earned their undergraduate degree even if they are in their first semester at the graduate institution.
