Donley, Lloyd Claim Individual Titles at Arkansas Invitational

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. Texas State track and field closed out its first meet of the indoor season Friday night at the Arkansas Invitational, hosted at the Randal Tyson Track Center.

The Bobcats opened the season with seven sprinters competing in the 60 meters, 60-meter hurdles, 200 meters and 400 meters.


Senior Drew Donley and freshman Ja'Shaun Lloyd highlighted the meet, each claiming an individual title.


Donley claimed the 60-meter dash crown with a time of 6.72 seconds, tying for the fourth-fastest mark in program history and currently standing as the fastest time in the Sun Belt Conference this indoor season.

In the 60-meter preliminaries, Donley won his heat in 6.80 seconds to advance to the semifinals, which he also won. He later added a runner-up finish in the 200 meters, crossing in 21.03 seconds. That mark currently ranks second in the Sun Belt and 10th nationally.

Competing in his first collegiate meet, Lloyd captured the 60-meter hurdles title in 7.74 seconds, a time that ranks eighth all-time in Texas State indoor history. Lloyd's mark currently sits first in the Sun Belt and is tied for 16th nationally.

In his collegiate debut, Lloyd won his prelim heat in 7.93 seconds to advance to the semifinals, then qualified for the final with a time of 7.91.


Ja'Shaun's twin brother, Ty'Shaun Lloyd, also made his collegiate debut, competing in the 60 meters. He won his heat in the prelims with a time of 6.99 seconds but did not advance to the finals after running 6.96 in the semifinals.


Two other freshmen, Reginald Bonner and Philip Reed, also made their Bobcat debuts both competing in the 200 meters. Bonner placed 13th with a time of 22.23 seconds, while Reed finished 18th in 22.52.


Reed also competed in the 60-meter hurdles, advancing to the semifinals after winning his heat in the prelims with a time of 8.10 seconds. He finished 11th overall in the semifinals with a time of 8.13. Bonner added a start in the 60 meters, finishing 35th in the prelims with a time of 7.07.


Texas A&M sophomore transfer Arveyon Davis made his Bobcat debut in both the 60 meters and 60-meter hurdles.


In the 60-meter hurdles prelims, Davis won his heat in 7.95 seconds to advance to the semifinals. He qualified for the finals after posting a time of 7.98 in the semis and went on to place seventh in the final with a time of 8.02.


Davis also competed in the 60 meters, advancing to the semifinals with a time of 6.91 before concluding his day with a 6.98 in the next round.


Texas State track & field will return to action Jan. 23–24 at the Ted Nelson Invitational, hosted by Texas A&M.
