SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Texas State fell narrowly short in its bid for six more tickets to the 2023 NCAA Outdoor Championships on Friday as the men's team completed its run at the NCAA West Prelims at Hornet Stadium.
Â
Ashton Callahan,
Daniel Harrold,
Aiden Hayes and
Chris Preddie all had shots to make it to the national meet as individuals, but each fell outside the top-12 in their respective events. Callahan finished 19th in the men's 200 meter quarterfinals (21.04) while Harrold placed 16th in the men's 110 meter hurdles quarterfinals (13.84). The 13.84 by Harrold was tied for the ninth-fastest time in school history and less than two-tenths off from qualifying for the next round.
Â
Hayes, a freshman, cleared 2.09 meters/6-10.25 in the men's high jump to finish tied for 23rd in the field of 48. He needed one more increment to clear as the NCAA Championship qualifiers registered heights of 2.14 meters/7-0.25.
Â
Preddie, who already qualified for the NCAA Championship in the long jump, did not register a jump in the triple jump in his three attempts.
Â
The two men's relay teams – 4x100 and 4x400 – also fell short of advancing out of the West Prelims. The men's 4x100 placed 23rd with a time of 39.95 and the 4x100 was 17th with a 3:07.83.
Â
The Bobcats will close out the 2023 West Prelims on Saturday with the remainder of the women's competitors.
Utitofon Sam (discus),
Katherine Stuckly (high jump), the women's 4x100, and
Sedrickia Wynn (100 meter hurdles, 100 meters, 200 meters) are all aiming for spots at the NCAA Championships.
