GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Aiden Hayes had a top-four finish while
Sedrickia Wynn and
Dominick Yancy posted some of the fastest times in school history in the 200 meter dash as Texas State track and field completed day one of the Tom Jones Memorial on Friday.
The Bobcats had six personal-bests on the first day of the two-day meet thanks to performances by Wynn and Yancy. Wynn ran 23.09 to finish 16th in the women's 200, which was a PR and seventh-best time in school history. Yancy, meanwhile, ran a wind-aided 20.58 in the men's 200 to record the third-fastest time in program history in that event.
The distance runners also highlighted the first day of the meet for the Bobcats.
Megan Ombres (11:06.04, women's 3000 meter steeplechase),
Franco Melhado (3:55.26, men's 1500 meter), and
Koket Jimata (15:14.77, men's 5000 meter) each had personal-bests on Friday in their respective meets.
While Yancy had the fastest time by a Bobcat in the men's 200,
Ashton Callahan had a PR in the event with a time of 20.89, bettering his previous PR by one-hundredth of a second.
Hayes, a freshman, cleared 1.99 meters to give the Bobcats one of their highest finishes (tied for fourth) in an event on Friday.
Texas State returns to action on Saturday with day two of the meet. It can be watched on SEC Network+.
