SAN MARCOS, Texas— Texas State track and field has opened the 2026 outdoor season with strong momentum, highlighted by its performance in the latest USTFCCCA TFRI Checkpoint 2 national rankings.

The men's team made a significant jump from No. 33 in Checkpoint 1 to No. 16 nationally, moving firmly into the top 25. The women's team also showed notable improvement, climbing from No. 34 to No. 26 as both squads continue to build on early-season success.

Texas State also placed four event groups among the nation's top five, further emphasizing the program's depth across multiple disciplines. The men's 110-meter hurdles and high jump groups both rank No. 1 nationally, while the men's long jump and women's shot put groups are ranked No. 3.

The nationally leading men's 110-meter hurdles group has been one of the most consistent units in the country, averaging 13.89 seconds this season. The group includes Ja'Shaun Lloyd (13.61), Joshua Taylor (13.81), Arveyon Davis (13.98) and Philip Reed (14.16).

In the high jump, Texas State's group continues to lead the nation behind standout performances from Aiden Hayes, Tshephang Dankuru, Easton Hammond and Giovonni Walker. Hayes currently holds the nation's top mark after clearing 2.22m at the Bobcat Invitational.

The men's long jump group, ranked No. 3 nationally, features Giovonni Walker (7.79m), Isaiah Kayembe (7.62m), Hammond (7.09m) and Damacio Hooks (7.01m), all of whom have contributed to the team's national standing.

On the women's side, the shot put group ranks No. 3 in the nation, led by Sophia Haberer, Hannah Kemele, Stephanie Williams and Sophie Daugard who have consistently posted top marks within the conference and region. 

Texas State will take the week to rest before traveling to California next week, where the Bobcats are scheduled to compete in a trio of meets as the outdoor season continues.
