NEW ORLEANS – For the third time in his career, Texas State's
Mason Harrell was named to an All-Sun Belt Conference team after being selected to the third team this year. He was also a first team honoree in 2021 and made the second team last season.
Harrell is the sixth Bobcat to be a three-time all-conference selection and the second while a member of the Sun Belt as he joins Nijal Pearson (2018-20). Other TXST players are accomplish the achievement are Travis Cornett (1972-74), Jeff Foster (1997-99), current assists coach
Donte Mathis (1997-99) and J.C. Maze (1950-52).
The fifth-year graduate senior guard led Texas State in the regular season in scoring (16.0), made field goals (150), three-pointers (40), free throws (107), free throw percentage (87.0), assists (67) and steals (31). His points per game mark is the sixth best in the league and his free throw percentage mark ranks second.
Harrell recorded a double-digit game in 24 of the 28 games he played in this season and led the team in scoring 13 times. Nine times he netted at least 20 points with a season-high 27 coming against Science & Arts (Okla.) on Dec. 21.
This season saw him earn the first Sun Belt Player of the Week honor after leading the Bobcats to a road victory at Rhode Island. That game saw him score 26 points on 9-of-18 shooting and going 7-for-10 at the charity stripe, grab five rebounds and dish out four assists.
During Thanksgiving weekend, Harrell helped Texas State finish runner-up in the inaugural Patty Mills North Shore Classic. The Midwest City, Oklahoma native was named to the all-tournament team after putting up 20.5 ppg on 56.0% shooting, made 2-of-3 three-pointers and went 11-for-13 (84.6%) at the free throw line. He also averaged 3.0 apg, 2.0 rpg and 1.5 spg while in Hawai'i.
Harrell goes into the Sun Belt Tournament sixth in team history with 1,496 points, third with 373 assists and second in both games played (142) and games started (105).
The Bobcats open their time in the Pensacola on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. when they take on Georgia State.
