Plata Taking Part in El Salvador National Team Camp

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State graduate defender Juana Plata is taking part in the El Salvador Women's National Team camp that is being held Feb. 13-21 in San Salvador, the nation's capital. She is the first Bobcat to ever be called up to a national team.

In her lone season in San Marcos, Plata helped lead TXST to a 12-5-2 record and share the top spot in the Sun Belt Conference West Division with South Alabama. She played in 17 matches and started 16 of them at left back in helping the backline record five shutouts.

Plata led all Bobcats with five assists of which four came off corner kicks. All but one of her assists also came in conference play with three of them coming on the match-tying or winner goals.

This won't be Plata's first time in the national team camp. She took part in her first camp in September 2021 and was a member of the squad that took part in in qualifying for a spot in the 2022 CONCACAF W Championship.

"I'm very thankful for another opportunity to represent my country as we prepare for tournaments later this year," said Plata. "Also, I am looking forward to the warmer weather, mountains and authentic dishes!"

The Houston native and the rest of her national teammates are scheduled to play a friendly on Wednesday, February 15 against Alianza, a professional team out of the city of San Salvador.
