Bobcat Meet Thundering Herd for First Time in White Out Game

SAN MARCOS, Texas – For the first time ever, the Texas State men's basketball team (10-9, 3-3 Sun Belt) will face Marshall (15-4, 4-2 Sun Belt) when the teams meet Thursday in Strahan Arena for a 7 p.m. tip. It will be a White Out game with fans encouraged to wear white and TXST shirsey will be given out while supplies last.
 
The game will be streamed on ESPN+ with Brant Freeman and Suzanne Fox calling the action. Fans can also tune into KTSW 89.9 FM and the Varsity Sports Network app to listen to Clint Shields on the call.
 
About Texas State
A three-point loss on Saturday saw the Bobcats' winning streak end at three games, all of which came on the road. Thursday is the first of three consecutive games at home and the first in the 2023 calendar year. All six Sun Belt Conference games has seen TXST hold opponents to 62 points or fewer with four of them netting less than 60 points.
 
Mason Harrell moved into a tie for eighth on the program's career scoring list with a 17-point effort at ULM. He currently has 1,368 in his career and needs 17 more to catch Kavin Gilder-Tilbury for seventh place. For the season, the fifth-year guard leads Texas State in scoring (16.8 ppg), made field goals (109), made three-pointers (28), made free throws (73), free throw percentage (83.0) and steals (21).
 
Nighael Ceaser is paces the squad with 8.1 rpg and is second in scoring (8.8) and blocks (15). Tyrel Morgan enters putting up 8.5 ppg and has retrieved 6.1 rpg. Jordan Mason has started the last five games and in that span is contributing 6.4 ppg on 44.0% shooting and 3.6 rpg in that span.
 
About Marshall
The Thundering Herd enter on a three-game winning streak and have played five of their first six conference games at home. The lone exception came on Jan. 5 when they fell 81-76 at Georgia Southern. Marshall will be playing six of their next eight games on the road where they have posted a 3-3 record.
 
Leading the way for the Herd is Taevion Kinsey at 21.2 ppg and 114 assists. He has made 165 shots to tie for the most in the nation with Detroit Mercy's Antoine Davis. A second scoring punch comes from Andrew Taylor at 18.8 ppg behind 48 made three-pointers. He also leads the team with 42 steals while Kinsey is second with 32.
 
Kamdyn Curfman (11.6 ppg) enters pacing the Sun Belt with 61 made three-pointers, 153 attempts from beyond the arc, 3.21 made treys a contest and has made 39.9% of his three-point attempts. In the post, Micah Handlogten is netting 8.6 ppg on a team-high 65.4% shooting. The 7-foot, 1-inch freshman leads the conference with 11.4 rpg and 51 blocks.

Thursday is the first time the programs will face each other. It is the second of four against the Sun Belt newcomers, all of which the Bobcats have never played before.
