Trip to the Natural State on Tap for Bobcats

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The four-game road swing continues for the Texas State men's basketball team (9-8, 2-2 Sun Belt) on Thursday when it travels to take on Arkansas State (9-8, 1-3 Sun Belt) at 7 p.m. inside First Bank Arena.
 
The game will be streamed on ESPN+ and fans can also tune into KTSW 89.9 FM and the Varsity Sports Network app to listen to Clint Shields on the call.
 
About Texas State
Last weekend saw the Bobcats overcome long travel days to pick up wins over James Madison and South Alabama. TXST has started conference play holding its first four opponents to 62 points or less in each contest.
 
Leading the way offensively is Mason Harrell at 16.9 points per game. The senior guard leads the team in made field goals (100), three-pointers (24), free throws (63) and steals (19). He is closing in on moving up a couple more spots on the program's career scoring list. Currently in ninth with 1,336 points, Harrell is 33 points shy of passing Henry Garcia for eighth and 50 from moving into seventh ahead of Kavin Gilder-Tilbury.
 
Nighael Ceaser is second on the team in scoring at 9.9 ppg and has grabbed 9.3 rebounds a contest that included a stretch of three consecutive games with 10 or more. Tyrel Morgan enters averaging 8.8 ppg and 6.1 rpg while Brandon Davis is knocking down a team best 44.8% of his shots from the field.
 
About Arkansas State
Heading into Thursday, the Red Wolves have lost three straight games with all of them being by at least 12 points. The lone win in league play came in the opener at Old Dominion by a score of 60-57. ASU is 8-2 at home this season with the lone non-conference loss being to Prairie View A&M on Nov. 25.
 
Caleb Fields paces the team in scoring (11.8), made free throws (61) and assists (79). Graduate transfer Oma El-Sheikh is nearly averaging a double-double at 11.4 ppg and 9.6 rpg and is shooting a team-high 51.8% from the field. The threesome of Markise Davis (22), Malcolm Farrington (25) and Avery Felts (27) have knocked down over 20 three-point attempts.
 
All-Time Series
TXST has dominated the all-time series and holds an 11-4 advantage. The Bobcats saw its 10-game winning streak in the series snapped last season with a 67-60 setback in Jonesboro. When playing ASU on the road, Texas State is 5-3 all-time.
