SAN MARCOS, Texas – Elijah Kennedy, a rising sophomore who played last season for Florida, will transfer to Texas State starting with the 2022-23 season, head coach
Terrence Johnson announced.
The second transfer from Florida for the Bobcats this year, Kennedy played in 23 games off the bench for the Gators last season. The 6-3 shooting guard averaged 1.3 points in 6.4 minutes per game.
"Elijah is a great addition to our program," said Johnson. "He's a dynamic guard that can score at all three levels. His strength, athleticism and knack for scoring adds versatility to our perimeter play. Eli's character and integrity will also fit and enhance our locker room and culture, bringing value on and off the floor."
Originally from Virginia Beach, Va., Kennedy helped Green Run High School win a state championship in 2020 and finish runner-up in 2021. The two-time all-state performer was named Virginia High School Coaches Association (VHSCA) Class 5 State Player of the Year as a senior after he averaged 22.0 points, 5.6 rebounds and 3.1 steals.
Kennedy joins Tuongthach Gatkek as the two former Gators who have transferred to Texas State this offseason. Gatkek, a 6-9 junior forward, committed to the Bobcats on May 6.
Texas State, back-to-back Sun Belt regular season champions under Johnson, returns nine letterwinners to go with three transfers and two freshman signees for the upcoming season.
