BATON ROUGE, La. –
Daniel Harrold and
Sedrickia Wynn posted top-10 school marks in their respective hurdle events,
Alyssa Wilson rewrote the school record book in the discus and hammer throw once again, and
Dominick Yancy posted the second-fastest time in school history in the 400 meter as the Texas State track and field team competed at the Battle on the Bayou at Bernie Moore Stadium on Saturday.
The Bobcats finished with five top-10 school marks, seven first-place finishes, and eight personal bests in the one-day meet. The seven first-place finishes were tied with tournament host LSU and Mississippi State for the most among the eight-team field.
Yancy's 45.87 in the 400 meter was the first time in 34 years a Bobcat ran sub-46.00 in the event. He joined school record-holder Darrell Hadden as the only ones to notch the feat.
Harrold, meanwhile, ran a 13.80 in the 110 meter hurdle to not only win the event but post the third-fastest time in school history. The junior out of Houston, who already had a top-10 time in the event after running 13.95 at the UTSA Invitational, now sits tied for the 15th fastest collegiate time this year.
In the 100 meter hurdle, Wynn ran 13.53 to post the ninth-best time in school history and fourth-best without wind assistance. A senior out of Conyers, Georgia, Wynn bested her previous personal best by nearly two tenths of a second.
She added personal bests in 100 (11.84) and 200 meter dashes (23.78) as she helped the Bobcats record all eight of their PBs on the track.
Wilson set her third different school record with her final throw in the discus. After throwing in 56.26 meters in her third attempt to help reach the final, she overcame back-to-back fouls to throw 57.06m/187-2 in her final attempt. In addition to being a school record and sixth best in the country this year, it was her fourth-best discus mark in her career.
In the hammer, Wilson threw 71.25m/233-9 to register the second-best mark in school history. The grad transfer out of New Jersey already holds the school record in the event (71.36m/234-1) and is the only collegiate thrower to post a mark of 70 or more meters.
In addition to seizing top marks in school history, Harrold, Wilson and Yancy were among six different Bobcats who grabbed the seven first-place finishes at the meet.
Will Blaser (shot put),
Kwanele Mthembu (3000m), and
Isaac Sadzewicz (pole vault) all reached the top of the podium in their events.
The first-place finishes were the second in as many events for Blaser (17.37m) and Mthembu (8:31.35).
Sadzewicz, meanwhile, was the only competitor to clear higher than five meters in the pole vault on Saturday as he went 5.12m/16-9.5.
The Bobcats will have next weekend off before returning to competition with the inaugural Charles Austin Classic in San Marcos April 15-16.
