#17 Bobcats Host I-35 Rivals UTSA

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Tuesday will see 17-ranked Texas State (28-9) host I-35 rival UTSA (24-12) at Bobcat Ballpark for the first time in two years. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
 
The game will be streamed on ESPN+ with Brant Freeman and Ty Harrington on the call. Fans can also listen to the action on KTSW 89.9 FM and live stats will be available.

For the sixth consecutive week, Texas State is ranked in at least five of the major polls. The Bobcats are ninth in Collegiate Baseball, 17th in both D1Baseball and USA Today, 18th in NCBWA and 21st in Baseball America polls.
 
ABOUT TEXAS STATE
Dalton Shuffield continues to pace the Bobcats offensively with a .368 average, 43 runs, 11 doubles and 10 stolen bases. He shares the team lead of 50 hits with Justin Thompson, who is hitting .360, and three triples with Ben McClain. Daylan Pena has driven in a team-high 31 runs and John Wuthrich has plated 30 runs while hitting a team best nine homers. Both Isaiah Ortega-Jones and McClain come in hitting .311.
 
Making his second straight midweek start will be Otto Wofford. The right-hander is 3-0 with a 7.36 ERA and nine strikeouts in 7.1 innings spanning eight appearances.
 
Tristan Stivors shares the Sun Belt Conference lead with seven saves while sporting a 5-1 record, 1.71 ERA and 42 strikeouts. Also with five victories out of the bullpen is Triston Dixon (2.48 ERA, 41 K).
 
ABOUT UTSA
UTSA has won 11 of its last 13 games. The Roadrunners had won five straight before dropping Sunday's series finale at Rice. They are 7-1 in midweek games with the lone loss coming on the road against Baylor by a 3-2 score on Mar. 22. In road games, UTSA sports an 11-9 record.
 
Six players are hitting over .300 led by Sammy Diaz at .347. Jonathan Tapia comes in with a team-high 38 runs scored and 12 doubles while driving in 31. Hitting a team-high nine home runs has been Ian Bailey and Ryan Flores is second with six round trippers. Coming in with a team best 37 RBI is Chase Keng.
 
Right-hander Ryan Ward will get the ball on Tuesday. He is 1-0 with a 4.35 ERA and nine strikeouts in 10.1 innings over seven appearances and two starts.
 
Daniel Shafer has recorded five of UTSA's seven saves. He sports a 3-1 record, 2.73 ERA and a staff leading 37 strikeouts. Making a team-high 17 relief appearances has been Grant Miller, who is 1-0 with a 6.91 ERA and 18 strikeouts.
 
SERIES VS. ROADRUNNERS
Texas State leads the all-time series 60-37. The last meeting between the programs came on Mar. 11, 2020 in San Marcos with the Bobcats winning 11-1 in eight innings. Wesley Faison hit a solo home run to lead off the bottom of the eighth for the walk-off victory. TXST has won three of the last four meetings and are 31-16 all-time when hosting the Roadrunners.
