SAN MARCOS, Texas – Collegiate Baseball Newspaper released its 2023 Preseason All-Americans teams on Monday and saw Texas State players
Triston Dixon and
Levi Wells be honored. It is the first time in program history with multiple preseason All-American selections.
Dixon received second team accolades while Wells was a chosen to the third team.
Last season saw Dixon go 8-0 with a 2.93 ERA over 27 appearances and one start. The right-hander struck out 56 in 58.1 innings and held opponents to a .231 batting average as he became one of the Bobcats top options out of the bullpen.
Three times last season Dixon came on in relief and threw at least four shutout innings to help TXST earn a victory on the road. The first was against Arkansas State with five scoreless frames of one-hit ball and five strikeouts. Four no-hit innings with six punchouts came at App State. The Conroe, Texas native struck out five in 5.1 innings against ULM.
Wells posted the lowest ERA among Bobcats starters with a 3.07 ERA on his way to recording an 8-3 record. He had 86 strikeouts over 91.0 innings spanning 18 games with 16 starts. He also threw the lone complete game for Texas State in 2022 as he went the distance on Apr. 2 against the Mountaineers to clinch the series.
The La Porte, Texas native was an All-Sun Belt Conference First Team selection in his first year in San Marcos. Twice he was named the league's pitcher of the week as well.
Wells has been recognized as one of the top prospects for the 2023 MLB Draft. MLB Pipeline ranked him as the 49th player, including high school seniors, in the country while D1Baseball has him as the 50th best collegiate player.
The Bobcats open the 2023 season on Friday, Feb. 17 when they welcome Northwestern to Bobcat Ballpark.
