Trout Announces Gowins Hiring and Staff Promotions

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State head baseball coach Steven Trout announced on Wednesday the hiring of Brandon Gowins as the team's new assistant coach along with staff promotions.

Gowins will be the Bobcats new recruiting coordinator. Other responsibilities include working with the team's catchers and serving as the first base coach.

"I couldn't be more fired up to add Brandon to the staff and to be our recruiting coordinator. He is one of the most respected guys in the business of identifying and evaluating talent, especially in the state of Texas," said Trout. "His work ethic is off the charts and his motor runs 24/7 to go find players. He knows every player in the state and will be a huge addition in signing the best players in the state and country."

Prior to coming to San Marcos, Gowins has been the scouting director for Prep Baseball Texas for the past four and a half years. He oversaw putting on events across the state of Texas, player rankings and scouting both high school and college games.

"I'm pumped and super thankful to have this opportunity to join Coach Trout and his staff during this exciting time in San Marcos," said Gowins. "With all that is happening, there isn't a better time to be a Bobcat. I can't wait to get to work and help in anyway that I can to help win some games."

Before working for Prep Baseball Texas, Gowins helped start up the USA Prime baseball club where he presided over college placement and helping recruit for the top teams for three years. He has coached multiple MLB first round picks with the most notable being Bobby Witt, Jr.

Gowins played collegiately at Tarleton State from 2005-06 and at Paris Junior College for the 2003 and 2004 seasons. He graduated from Carrollton Creekview High School in 2002.

Along with Gowins hiring, Trout announced that associated head coach Josh Blakley will be Texas State's new pitching coach. Assistant coach Danny-David Linahan has been promoted to take over as the team's hitting coach.
