NEW ORLEANS – Texas State's
Madi Goss and
Avery Thies were both named to an All-Sun Belt Conference team, as announced by the league office on Monday. Goss was a first team selection and Thies was picked to the second team.
It is the first all-conference honors for both student-athletes. They are also the first Bobcats since 2019 to be named to either All-Sun Belt squad.
Goss concluded the regular season with nine goals, six of which came in conference play, and three assists to total 21 points. Both her league and overall goal totals are tied for the second most in the Sun Belt. Four of her tallies have come on penalty kicks that set a new program season record and she is one shy of matching the career mark.
She recorded her first career hat trick and the first by a TXST player since 2015 in a 4-1 win over ULM on Sept. 25. The sophomore midfielder followed with a penalty kick goal against James Madison and at Louisiana. Goss also had an assist against the Ragin' Cajuns and one the following week at Troy, both of which came on the match-winning tallies.
Goss leads the team a .375 shot percentage and ranks second with 24 shots, 12 shots on goal and a .500 SOG percentage.
Thies paces all Texas State field players with 1,404 minutes on the pitch as she started 16 matches at centerback. She scored one goal and assisted on another, both the first of her collegiate career.
Her assist came in the season opener on the lone goal of the match. She would put home the match-winner late in the contest against Rice for the program's first win over the Owls in 20 years.
Thies was part of a backline that recorded five shutouts with two of them coming against Sun Belt opponents. They also limited conference foes to 89 shots and didn't allow more that 13 in a match.
Texas State opens the Sun Belt Championship on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. against James Madison and will be streamed on ESPN+.
