Final Home Series This Weekend against Georgia State

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The final series at Bobcat Ballpark this season for Texas State (21-28, 9-9 Sun Belt) takes place this weekend against Georgia State (12-35, 7-11 Sun Belt). Friday's game is scheduled for a 6 p.m. start and Saturday's game is slated to begin at 2:30 p.m. The series finale on Sunday will see first pitch at 12 p.m.
 
Games on Saturday and Sunday will be streamed on ESPN+ with Brant Freeman and Ty Harrington on the call. An audio broadcast of both contests can be found on KTSW 89.9 FM with Bill Culhane on the call. Live stats will also be available for all three contests.
 
PROBABLE STARTING PITCHERS
Friday: Zachary Leigh (4-5, 5.12 ERA) vs. Cameron Jones (0-6, 4.75 ERA)
Saturday: Zeke Wood (3-4, 4.12 ERA) vs. Dawson Sweatt (2-2, 4.18 ERA)
Sunday: TBD vs. Chad Treadway (1-4, 5.55 ERA)
 
LAST TIME OUT
The Bobcats won its first-ever series over South Alabama after taking the first two games of the three-game set. Saturday's 13-4 victory was the program's 250th at Bobcat Ballpark.
 
ABOUT TEXAS STATE
Justin Thompson leads TXST with a .307 batting average, 58 hits and 35 RBI. He has also hit five home runs and scored 27 times. Only player to have score more times is Will Hollis (28). Dalton Shuffield has upped his average to .283 while leading the team with eight stolen bases. He also moved into a tie for 14th on the career doubles list with 33 after hitting two against the Jaguars.
 
Scheduled to take the rubber on Friday is Zachary Leigh. He is 4-5 with a 5.12 ERA and his 69 strikeouts place him sixth in the Sun Belt Conference. Zeke Wood gets the call for Saturday and comes in with a 3-4 record, 4.12 ERA and 48 strikeouts. Sunday's starter is to be determined.
 
ABOUT GEORGIA STATE
Georgia State comes in having lost three straight games after falling to Mercer 7-4 on Tuesday. The Panthers did not play last weekend due to COVID issues. They were slated to travel to Nashville to take on Belmont. GSU is 4-23 on the road with a 2-7 mark in conference play.
 
Josh Smith leads the team with a .305 batting average. He has scored 27 runs, driven in 23, stolen seven bases and hit six homers. Will Mize leads the squad with 51 hits and has struck out 57 times. The shortstop has also hit nine doubles, five home runs and plated 21 runs while hitting .285. Elian Merejo, a preseason all-conference selection at designated hitter, comes in with a team-high seven homers and 29 RBI.
 
Cameron Jones is slated to start Friday and enters at 0-6 with a 4.75 ERA and 37 strikeouts in 53 innings. Dawson Sweatt will make his second start on the rubber Saturday. The left-hander is 2-2 with a 4.18 ERA and 18 strikeouts in 28 innings spanning 18 games. Getting the ball on Sunday will be Chad Treadway, who is 1-4 with a 5.55 ERA and 22 strikeouts over 24.1 innings of work.
 
SERIES VS. THE PANTHERS
The all-time series sees Texas State lead 13-5. Of the six previous series meetings, the Bobcats have won five of them with the lone series setback coming in 2017. TXST won the last series in 2019 that saw the teams split a doubleheader before the Bobcats finished off the series with a 12-2 eight inning run-rule victory.
 
Texas State is 8-4 all-time at home against the Panthers. The only series sweep over GSU came in San Marcos on April 18-20, 2014.
