Bobcats Open 2021 Outdoor Season Setting Three School Records and Winning Five Events

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State men's and women's track and field teams opened their 2021 outdoor season setting three school records and winning five events while competing at the 93rd Annual Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays and the Bobcat Invitational on March 25-27.
 
Pedro Osorio Lopez and Kwanele Mthembu opened the Texas Relays setting school records in their races. Osorio Lopez finished third in the 1500-meter race with a time of 3:48.20, bettering the previous school record of 3:48.35 set by James Ortiz in 2005.
 
Mthembu set another school record with a time of 29:25.41 to finish fifth in the men's 10,000 meters and broke the previous school record of 30:16.10 set by Randy Ayers in 2001. He finished in fifth place at the Texas Relays.
 
Brandon Busby set a school record and won two throwing events at the Bobcat Invitational. He won the men's hammer with a throw of 63.18 meters (207' 3"). Jordan Huckaby set the former record of 62.68 meters (205' 8") in 2016. Busby also won the men's shot put at the Bobcat Invitational with a mark of 16.57 meters (54' 4.50").
 
Bobcat throwers won three events overall at the Bobcat Invitational as Lauryn Small was the women's shot-put champion with a mark of 14.37 meters (47' 1.75"). 
 
Anayah Washington won the women's 100-meter dash with a wind-aided time of 11.78 and was the runner-up in the long jump with a leap of 5.93 meters (19' 5.50").
 
Kattiana Ealy-Pulido won the women's 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:02.36, while Ariana Ealy-Pulido finished third in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.26 seconds.
 
Texas State had three second-place finishes at the Bobcat Invitational. Tina Douglas was the runner-up in the women's high jump after clearing 1.70 meters (5' 7").
 
McKenzie Pearson was the runner-up in the women's triple jump with a mark of 12.45 meters (40' 10.25"). Naomi Ferdinand finished in fifth place with a leap of 12.07 meters (39' 7.25").
 
Drue Jackson had the third-longest leap in the men's long jump with a wind-aided 7.19 meters (23' 7.25").
 
Texas State also had a pair of fourth-place finishes in the men's and women's 4x400-meter relay at the Texas Relays.
 
The women's team of Chermariea Hardy, Breanna Clark, Kattiana Ealy-Pulido, and Christine Taylor had a time of 3:43.20 in the race. The men's team of Kobe Daniels, Jaylen Allen, Pedro Osorio Lopez, and Taahir Kelly finished their race in 3:08.19.
 
Bobcat Indoor All-American Katherine Stuckly cleared 1.76 meters (5'-9.25") to finish sixth in the women's high jump.
 
Simon Thor finished in seventh place in the men's decathlon with 4,281 points.
 
Lee Ann Blake had a time of 4:35.49 to finish ninth in the women's 1,500-meter race.
 
Brandon Busby also competed in throwing events at the Texas Relays, finishing ninth in the shot put with a mark of 15.89 meters (52' 1.75") and 11th in the discus with a throw of 50.25 meters (164' 10").
