SAN MARCOS, Texas – After a weekend trip to California, Texas State (3-5) returns home for two midweek games against New Mexico State (1-2) on Tuesday and No. 19 Texas (3-4) on Wednesday. Both games are scheduled for a 6 p.m. first pitch.

ABOUT TEXAS STATE
Texas State dropped all three games at Sacramento State in a quickly put together series after both teams' original opponents had to cancel due to COVID protocol. It was the first time since 2018 that the Bobcats had been swept in a series.

Justin Thompson continues to lead the team in batting average (.385), hits (10), RBI (10) and on-base percentage (.448). He shares the team lead of two doubles with
Johnny Gonzales and
Tucker Redden.

Also batting over .300 is
Will Hollis at .321. He is one of three Bobcats to have hit a home run this season along with
Wesley Faison and
Isaiah Ortega-Jones.

Garrett Herrmann is scheduled to get the start on the mound against NMSU. It will be his first appearance of the season. Last season he posted a 2.45 ERA with 10 strikeouts over 11 innings that spanned three appearances with one start.

ABOUT NEW MEXICO STATE
New Mexico State opened its season this past weekend at Abilene Christian. After dropping the first two, the Aggies run-ruled the Wildcats 12-2 in seven innings on Sunday.

Ethan Mann paces the Aggies in batting average (.385), hits (5) and RBI (5). He has also hit a home run and scored thrice.

Also batting over .300 is Kevin Jimenez (.333), Connor Laux (.364) and Tommy Tabak (.333).

Ian Mejia will start on the rubber. The redshirt freshman will be making his first appearance of the season. Last season was spent at Pima CC and in 2019 he redshirted at Arizona. He was drafted in the 35th round of the 2018 MLB draft by the New York Mets.

SERIES VS. AGGIES
Texas State leads the all-time series over New Mexico state 4-1. The last meeting came in the 2013 WAC Tournament with the Bobcats prevailing 9-4. TXST also won the regular season series that year with two victories in Las Cruces. Tuesday will be the first-ever meeting between the programs in San Marcos.

Texas begins the week with a 3-4 record and will host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Tuesday before facing the Bobcats. The Longhorns are coming off a 3-1 weekend series victory over BYU at home. UT opened the season with loss to Arkansas, Mississippi and Mississippi State at Globe Life Field.

Douglas Hodo III leads Texas with a .365 batting average (4-for-11) and six runs scored. He has also hit a home run and driven in four. Ivan Melendez comes in batting .333 with one double and homer along with six RBI.

Cam Williams paces the Longhorns in doubles (3), home runs (3) and RBI (8). For the year, he is hitting .318 with an .864 slugging percentage.

Left-hander Pete Hansen is slated to get the ball on Wednesday. The redshirt freshman is 0-0 with a 2.25 ERA over two games, one start, in four innings of work. He has struck out three, walked three and given up three hits. Last season saw him go 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA and 18 strikeouts in 17 innings spanning six games.

Freshman Tanner Witt has been a standout performer on the mound out of the bullpen so far this year. He has struck out 11 in six innings and recorded the team's lone save while allowing just three hits and no runs.

Other relivers that enter the week with a 0.00 ERA are Drew Shifflet, Jared Southard and Palmer Wenzel.

SERIES VS. LONGHORNS
UT holds a 49-12 advantage over TXST all-time. The Bobcats won the last meeting between the team's 7-6 on Skylar Valentine's walk-off single on Apr. 23, 2019. When hosting the Longhorns, Texas State has a 2-4 record with both wins coming in the last three meetings in San Marcos. This season will also be the first time that the Bobcats and Longhorns will face off twice at Bobcat Ballpark.
