LUBBOCK, Texas - Senior
Jaylen Allen had an impressive debut to lead the Texas State men's track and field team at the Red Raider Invitational in the Texas Tech Sports Performance Center on Saturday afternoon.
The defending Sun Belt Conference 400-meter champion, Allen finished his first race in 2021 in 47.46 seconds and placed second overall at the Red Raider Invitational. His time leads the Sun Belt Conference and ranks No. 25 among NCAA Division I Indoor Track and Field leaders.
Allen also ran the second leg of Texas State's 4x400-meter relay team that finished in third place with a time of 3:15.13. He teamed with
Kobe Daniels,
Myles Anders, and
Taahir Kelly to help the Bobcats post the second-fastest time in the Sun Belt Conference this season.
Sydney Cole had the best overall finish for the women's track and field team with the second-fastest time in the 3,000 meters with 10:40.39.
Anayah Washington,
Isaac Sadzewicz, and
Brandon Busby posted fourth-place finishes at the Red Raider meet.
Washington had a time of 7.59 seconds in the women's 60-meter dash final after equaling the third-fastest time in the Sun Belt with 7.57 seconds in the prelims.
Sadzewicz posted the Sun Belt's third-best mark in the pole vault after clearing 4.95 meters (16-2.75).
Busby had the league's third-best marks in the weight throw with a toss of 18.74 meters (61-5.75). He finished sixth in the shot put with 14.81 meters (48-7.25).
Myles Anders had the Sun Belt's fourth-fastest time of 6.88 seconds in the prelims of the men's 60-meter dash. Anders had a sixth-place finish in the 200 meters with the Sun Belt's second-fastest time of 21.52 seconds.
Kobe Daniels finished in sixth place on Saturday with the league's fourth-fastest time in the 400 meters with 48.55 seconds.
Another defending conference champion,
Katherine Stuckly, competed for the first time this season and cleared 1.68 meters to finish sixth in the high jump. She also ranks sixth among league leaders this season.
Mathilde Canet posted the Sun Belt's second-longest mark and finished in sixth place on Saturday in the women's long jump with 5.85 meters (19-2.50).
Sedrickia Wynn had a sixth-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.82 seconds, the eighth-fastest time in the Sun Belt this season. Her best time of 8.78 seconds ranks fifth in the league.
Shelby Smith placed seventh in the women's 200 meters with the Sun Belt's third-best time of 24.95 seconds.
James Noles had a career-best throw of 16.01 meters (52-6.50) to finish in ninth place in the men's weight throw. He also had a season-best mark of 14.73 meters (48-4) in the shot put to finish in seventh place on Saturday. Both distances rank among the top seven Sun Belt leaders in each event.
Lauryn Small finished eighth in the women's weight throw with 16.65 meters (54-7.50), while
Alexandra Headley had the league's eighth-best mark in the shot put with 13.21 meters (43-4.25).
