SAN MARCOS, Texas – After completing a four-match homestand this past weekend, the Texas State soccer team (1-4-1) begin a four-match road swing that starts with a trip to the state of Arkansas. On Friday, the Bobcats face Little Rock (0-1-0) at 7 p.m. at the Coleman Sports Complex. They conclude the weekend with a 12 p.m. Sunday match at Arkansas State that will be played at the A-State Soccer Complex.
Both matches will have live stats available. A video stream for each contest is still to be determined.
Goals2Cure
Texas State is putting on its fourth annual Goals2Cure initiative that raises funds in support of women fighting ovarian cancer. Last Weekend
The Bobcats split matches last weekend at home. It began with a 2-0 loss to Central Arkansas and ended with an exciting 3-2 comeback victory Sunday afternoon over Louisiana in the Sun Belt Conference opener for both teams.
Ally Kewish netted her third career goal and her second against the Ragin' Cajuns to open the scoring late in the first half on Sunday, knocking in a rebound off a shot from
Olivia Wright. Following two goals that were 68 seconds apart by Louisiana,
Kiara Gonzales knotted the score with a left-footed blast with just under six minutes to play.
Emma Jones headed home the match-winner with 3:30 left on the clock after a short cross from Gonzales.
In goal,
Beth Agee played all 180 minutes and recorded five saves in each contest. She now has 40 saves on the season which continues to lead the nation.
Scouting Little Rock
Little Rock has played just once this season, a 1-0 loss at Central Arkansas on Sept. 10. The Trojans were scheduled to begin Sun Belt play last Friday against ULM but the match was postponed because LR couldn't field enough players to safely play the match. This Friday's contest is the only match this weekend for the Trojans, who won't play again until Oct. 1 at Arkansas State.
Lucio Abril leads the team with three shots. Both Peyton Laughley and Mari Young have attempted two shots apiece.
Saskia Wagner made nines saves in the match against the Bears.
All-Time vs. Trojans
Texas State has never lost to Little Rock with a 5-0-3 all-time record. Last year saw the teams play to a scoreless draw at the Coleman Sports Complex. That was the sixth straight match-up that has gone to overtime and the fifth that reached the second extra-time period.
The Bobcats are 2-0-1 all-time when playing the Trojans on the road. The last win in the series took place in Little Rock by a 3-2 score in double overtime. That day say
Alyssa Phelan knock in the golden goal early in the 106th minute.
Little Rock Attendance Policy
- Free admission to the matches
- Masks will be required to be worn
at all times at the Coleman Sports Complex unless fans are eating or drinking.
- Seating in the bleachers on the west side of the facility will have markings on the seats to keep fans socially distanced. They ask all spectators to respect the marked off areas to maintain a safe environment.
- Fans will be permitted to stand along the fence line surrounding the track area. Fans are asked to observe social distancing guidelines and spread out.
- No fans will be allowed on the playing surface at any point. Fans will not be allowed on the field following the match and players will not be allowed to interact with fans following the conclusion of the match.
Scouting Arkansas State
Arkansas State enters the weekend undefeated at 2-0-0 and 1-0-0 in the Sun Belt following a 6-1 win on Sunday over ULM. The Red Wolves began the season with a 2-0 road victory over Central Arkansas. Prior to facing Texas State, they will play at Louisiana on Thursday.
Haley Furio, this week's Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Week, has scored a team-high three goals with two coming against the Warhawks. Sarah Sodoma, the conference's Preseason Player of the Year, has a goal and two assists to her name. She leads the team with six shots. Others to have scored a goal this year are Haley Husted, Victoria Macintosh, Olivia Smith and Dabry Stotts.
Megan McClure started both matches between the posts. The senior has made four saves for a .800 save percentage and sports a 0.50 GAA.
All-Time vs. Red Wolves
Texas State leads the all-time series 5-3-1 over Arkansas State. Last season saw the Bobcats fall 1-0 in Jonesboro during the regular season and play to a scoreless draw in the opening round of the Sun Belt Championship that saw the Red Wolves prevail 4-1 on penalty kicks.
The last win for TXST in the series was on Sept. 30, 2018 at home by a 2-1 score.
Kaylee Davis netted both goals in the contest.
When playing ASU on the road, the Bobcats are 2-2-0 all-time. The last road win was on Sept. 24, 2017 when
Kassi Hormuth headed I the lone goal on the match late in the 77th minute.
