Homestand Continues with Two Midweek Games

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The homestand at Bobcat Ballpark continues for the Texas State baseball team (12-4) with two midweek contests. First up will be UTSA (10-6) at 6 p.m. on Tuesday followed by a 4 p.m. first pitch on Wednesday against Prairie View A&M (3-14).
 
Tuesday's game will be streamed on ESPN+ with Brant Freeman and Ty Harrington on the call. Karl Schoening will provide the online radio call while Bill Schoening will broadcast the game on Wednesday on KTSW 89.9 FM. Live stats will be available for both games.

SERIES VS. ROADRUNNERS
The Bobcats lead the all-time series 59-37 over the Roadrunners. Last season, TXST won the first two meetings before dropping the finale. It was the first time since 2016 that Texas State had won the season series.
 
When playing UTSA at home, the Bobcats are 29-17. Tuesday will be the first of three meetings this season. The second is Mar. 18 in San Antonio and the third is Apr. 28 at Bobcat Ballpark.
 
ABOUT TEXAS STATE
Texas State has won five straight and nine of the last 10 after sweeping Bethune-Cookman over the weekend. It was the first non-conference weekend series sweep for the Bobcats since 2018 against Stephen F. Austin.
 
Wesley Faison leads the team a .362 batting average, five home runs, 12 RBI, .446 on-base percentage and .702 slugging percentage. Joining him in hitting over .300 are Will Hollis (.349), Dalton Shuffield (.310) and John Wuthrich (.314). Both Hollis and Wuthrich have driven in 11 runs apiece and Jaxon Williams has plated 10.
 
Getting the ball on Tuesday to start the game will be Tony Robie (2-0, 4.50 ERA). The freshman right-hander will be making his second midweek start and fourth appearance overall. Last week against Baylor, he went six innings and gave up two runs on four hits and struck out one. Robie retired the final 11 batters he faced.
 
Wednesday's starter is still to be determined.
 
ABOUT UTSA
UTSA comes into the game on a four-game losing streak after falling to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in midweek action and getting swept over the weekend at UT Arlington. The Roadrunners are 1-4 away from home this season with the lone victory being on Feb. 25 at Lamar (4-2).
 
Layton Barry leads the team with a .383 batting average, .681 slugging percentage, .444 on-base percentage, three home runs and two triples. He has also driven in 14 runs.
 
Dylan Rock enters with a .339 average, 13 runs scored and is 10-for-11 stealing bases. Bryan Sturges paces UTSA with 15 RBI and 16 runs scored. He and Rock have both hit a team-high six doubles. Also batting .300 or better is Joshua Lamb (.300) and Griffin Paxton (.313).
 
The Roadrunners have not announced their starting pitcher for Tuesday. They have used three different starting pitchers in midweek games with starts going to Pepper Jones (0-0, 2.19 ERA), Luke Malone (0-0, 13.50 ERA) and Cole McKay (1-1, 7.27 ERA).
 
Jack Engelmann and Hunter Mason have made a team-high six appearances out of the bullpen. Engelmann sports a 2.84 ERA over 6.1 innings with four strikeouts. Mason is 0-2 with two saves, 4.50 ERA and nine strikeouts in 16 innings. Palmer Wenzel has three saves and is 1-0 with a 0.96 ERA over five games spanning 9.1 frames.
 
SERIES VS. PANTHERS
Texas State leads the all-time series 39-1 over the Panthers. Entering Wednesday, the Bobcats have won the last 32 meetings. The lone loss in the series was an 8-4 defeat in San Marcos on Apr. 16, 1986. TXST is 27-1 all-time when playing PVAMU at home.
 
ABOUT PRAIRIE VIEW A&M
Prairie View A&M begins the week having lost two straight and eight of its last nine contests. The lone win was a 6-0 victory in the series opener at Arkansas-Pine Bluff this Friday. Only other wins this year were in a weekend series against Texas College. Prior to facing Texas State, the Panthers will host Houston-Victoria on Tuesday.
 
Brayden Johnson paces the squad with a .298 batting average, 14 hits, three doubles, 11 RBI and five stolen bases. Andrew Garcia has also hit two doubles along with two triples while hitting .273. Other regulars hitting above the Mendoza Line are Tyler Gordon (.222) and Andrew Paige (.233).
 
Wednesday's starter is still to be announced.
 
Out of the bullpen, both Cameron Cooper (0-0, 9.95 ERA) and Brian Williams (0-1, 19.06 ERA) have made a team-high five appearances.
